What our readers think
Readers find this title to be a cosy and enjoyable festive read. While some reviewers found it predictable and wished for more distinction between thought and dialogue, overall, readers loved the warm and sweet story. The friends-to-lovers trope was well-executed, although some felt that the fake-dating scenario developed too quickly. The narration was praised, although there were mixed opinions about the male voice. Despite some minor flaws, readers found this book to be a delightful and romantic holiday read, perfect for fans of Hallmark movies.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Aug 28, 2025 Story: 5 stars
 Super sweet best-friends-to-lovers romance!
 Narration: 3.5 stars
Unfortunately the narrator speaks so softly sometimes that she swallows a lot of word-ends and some syllables, which distracted me quite a lot in an annoying way
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Jan 5, 2025 A beautiful story, with all the right tropes that leaves us with a heartwarming feeling at the end. As Stella is trying to save her Christmas tree farm, enters into a social media contest, aiming to the big price and the increase of visitors for the farm. But in order to make more attractive the experience, she lies in the application saying that she owns the farm along with her boyfriend, except that she hasn't one. This leads her to recruit her bestfriend Luca to act as her boyfriend for a couple of days over the assesment for this contest. And so the story unfolds, a small town presenting a bunch of characters whose uniques features enrich this sweet story. About the audiobook, was a pleasent experience with clean and nice narration.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Dec 18, 2024 Perfectly cute story, but the narrator sounds generic, almost robotic at times.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Nov 25, 2023 Such a sweet Christmas romance that will warm your heart ❤️ Stella and Luka have been friends for over a decade and when a fake dating scenario comes about, they are both forced to face their feelings. I loved Luka and his Italian family as well as Stella and her little found family in the farm with Beckett and Luna. Spice is low but things still get a little steamy ?
Luka’s epilogue melted my heart ❤️❤️
Looking forward to reading the rest of this series!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Nov 24, 2023 Ahhhh friends to lovers done well ? note to authors though, we need to talk about this copy and paste third act break up ?? it's so overdone.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Nov 15, 2023 It’s a Hallmark Christmas story with some spice. I liked it but it was too slow for me, once I put it at 1.8 speed it was good.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Aug 30, 2023 AMAZING! NEW CHRISTMAS READ TRADITION! I am getting the paperback and will listen to this again this time next year
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Aug 30, 2023 This was a DNF for me.
But wait, I gave it five stars??!!
THAT'S RIGHT! Thank GOODNESS I watched/read some of the reviewers who RAVED about it (and I'm HARD side-eyeing the people out there who only gave it one or two stars!)
I don't even remember why I DNF'd it within the first chapter or two, the first time I read it. Admittedly it's a little confusing at first, and includes a BIG misdirect, which some inflexible readers never manage to get over. In addition, if you're listening to the audiobook, it's excellent other than the fact that Pippa Jayne's "male" voice is....not sexy.
SO DON'T LET THOSE THINGS DISCOURAGE YOU. Y'all, five stars is rare for me...RARE!!!! I think I judge everything against the magical feeling that "The Hating Game" gave me, and the further I got in this book, the more Sally Thorne and Emily Henry vibes it started giving me.
Is the plot perfect? Well no, and like the townfolk, you'll find yourself thinking, "Why on EARTH have these two never gotten together before now?!" The author could easily have cut their friendship time in half, and it would probably have been more believable.
Were there a few things/characters that just felt thrown in there, with no real connection to the plot? I suppose, although I always just assumed those things would come to play in one of the subsequent books in the series.
Was the third act crisis slightly ridiculous and pretty frustrating to read? Yes, BUT..... A: The author MADE SURE that it wasn't just about "lack of communication". There was a hot minute there when I thought it was totally going to be one of those "she didn't understand what he was trying to say" moments, and I was already inwardly growing. Thankfully BKB cleared that up FAST!
And B: .....yeah, this was the weakest point of the book, but it was also over FAST. No going separate ways and cutting things completely off for six to eight months over some silly hangup. Both characters were mature enough to want to iron it all out, and I think it was within the day!
And honestly, the h's hesitation was completely understandable, it just wasn't written well. Which I absolute hate to say, because MOST OF THE WRITING WAS LOVELY! New favorite author, y'all!!!
I'm not someone who's hung up on books being written in first person, but there are times when it IS frustrating when you're getting the h's POV, and not the H's. NOT THE CASE WITH THIS BOOK. I didn't even consciously track the fact that we WEREN'T getting the H's POV until the epilogue kicked in, and then I looked back and realized that there hadn't been one single time I felt like I DIDN'T know what Luca was thinking/feeling.
And, ohhhh, these two were SWOOOONY. For those who want to know, there is some LOVELY spice in this book. And I personally LOVED that it unfolded slowly. I really get frustrated with books/movies where characters give each other one look, or exchange one kiss, and immediately start ripping each other's clothes off.
It's the slow progression of a relationship (both physical and emotional) that makes it DELICIOUSSSS, and there aren't NEAR enough books exploring how completely hot dry-humping can be. And then fingering....then oral....all in wonderful logical tantalizing steps, before the P ever goes in the V. And all the build up makes THAT moment that much more desperate and fulfilling!
Anyway. Yeah. LOVED THIS BOOK. Maybe you won't. But don't let any negative reviews turn you off it, at least give it a try.
(Oh, I just remembered to mention, parts of it are pretty darn funny too. I loved all their fussing over food, lol. She was so annoying and it was adorable. :p )
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Aug 30, 2023 The warmest, sweetest story of the year, I'm swooning. Perfect read for any time of the year!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Aug 30, 2023 This is a really cute winter romance. It's nothing groundbreaking, but altogether a good time.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Aug 30, 2023 I liked the setting of this book and I especially liked Luka. I wish we got more of his POV, and not just as the epilogue. He was my favorite character!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Aug 30, 2023 Simply beautiful, loved every minute, there is some humor tucked in throughout that had me laughing out loud, highly recommended.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Aug 30, 2023 This narration was beautiful and well done. Wish there was a little more distinction between “thought” vs “dialogue” but this story is ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️?
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Aug 30, 2023 This is the perfect holiday story!!! I would highly recommend it :)
