Mass customization (MC) which was introduced by Davis (Future perfect, Addison-Wesley, Reading, MA 1987) has become a reality; nevertheless not all MC stories had a happy ending. Many companies implementing MC failed while some others succeeded such as National Bicycles Industrial Company of Japan, Hewlett-Packard, Motorola, Benetton, Chryslers, and Dell. How to determine the best MC strategy to be implemented or even if such a strategy should be adopted? In the literature many methods for implementing MC are found, however none of these propose a structured way for implementing and evaluating such a strategy as a whole, each concentrated on one department or phase of the supply or value chains. We suggest in this paper the use of extended value network modelling and simulation for evaluating an MC strategy, and we describe the modelling language used and the approach which will be applied into shoemaking industries via a European project named DOROTHY.

The term Big Data means huge amount of data which refers to some applications and study of sets of big and
complex data. The traditional systems were not equipped to handle such huge volume of data. In the current advanced
technical environment there are various applications to deal with these kinds of data. Big Data applications are prevalent in
various fields that include remote sensing, Internet of vehicles, security analytics, architecture design for smart grid,
greening big data, fuzzy based scalable clustering algorithm, novel pipeline approach, visual analytics in urban computing
etc. In today’s world enormous vehicular data is generated in terms of traffic safety, all this data is generated by vehicles and
the traffic signals and other navigational services. This data is used to manage the activities of vehicles for emergency
services. Today lots of lives get lost due to delay in emergency services, many approaches for this problem had been proposed
but they were not efficient. In this paper, a new emergency vehicle (EV) traffic management system is proposed to cope up
with this problem. The system uses Geo Location to track the distance between traffic signal and EVs, and change the traffic
signal to green and shows the lane from which EVs is coming on the Traffic signal when it is within range of Traffic signal.
This system will results in less delay in terms of EVs reaching the destination which in turn will help in saving more lives.

The emergence of webOS on Palm devices has created new challenges and opportunities for digital investigators. With the purchase of Palm by Hewlett Packard, there are plans to use webOS on an increasing number and variety of computer systems. These devices can store substantial amounts of information relevant to an investigation, including digital photographs, videos, call logs, SMS/MMS messages, e-mail, remnants of Web browsing and much more. Although some files can be obtained from such devices with relative ease, the majority of information of forensic interest is stored in databases on a system partition that many mobile forensic tools do not acquire. This paper provides a methodology for acquiring and examining forensic duplicates of user and system partitions from a device running webOS. The primary sources of digital evidence on these devices are covered with illustrative examples. In addition, the recovery of deleted items from various areas on webOS devices is discussed.

The next project will define for a service company about technical assistance to Hewlett Packard® and Compaq®, a proposal of integration of quality management systems. The selected company is Soporte S.A., despite of  its short history since its origins date back to 1994, has achieved recognition by computer equipment brands mentioned above and have allowed growth in human talent, as well as coverage in colombian territory.

In colombian operation context, the company intends to compete on quality in the sector in which operates and currently has the ISO 9001: 2008 quality certification, as we know, is voluntary, but for  Soporte S.A. customers (HP® y Compaq®) is essential to count with ISO quality certification guarantee, for legal and technical conditions in Colombia, there is also another operating framework called Registro Uniforme [de Evaluación del Sistema de Gestión en Seguridad, Salud Ocupacional y Ambiente – SSOA] para Contratistas, known as RUC, that’s mandatory.

Here is a descriptive approach to research with a case study, therefore, qualitative, with the assistance of company staff, as expert collaborators (each in their professional or operational performance) using three different data collecting instruments: a survey to categories of analysis weighting (applied to ten people), a survey to general statements concerning to categories of analysis assessing (applied to 29 people) and a third instrument (applied to three), which compares the performance and integrity of the ISO 9001 and RUC systems.

Information obtained by three instruments is crossed, to get comparisons between categories of analysis, compliance of quality factors and the completeness of these between ISO and RUC. These data suggest to Soporte S.A. in which factors or requirements of ISO and RUC is needed to work to integrate, purge processes or implement some other that are not being considered.

This paper will first give brief information about European Union’s competition policy with focusing on Merger Regulation. Secondly, the sides of the case and the background of merger will be disscussed. Then move on with European Commission’s involvement and its decision about the case will be explained. Finally the paper concluded with the impact of the merger.

To develop and test a method for standardized calibration of pulse oximeters. A novel pulse oximeter calibration technique capable of simulating the behavior of real patients is discussed. It is based on an artificial finger with a variable spectral-resolved light attenuator in conjunction with an extensive clinical database of time-resolved optical transmission spectra of patients fingers in the wavelength range 600-1000 nm. The arterial oxygen saturation of the patients at the time of recording was derived by analyzing a corresponding blood sample with a CO-oximeter. These spectra are used to compute the modulation of the light attenuator which is attached to the artificial finger. This calibration method was tested by arbitrarily playing back recorded spectra to pulse oximeters and comparing their display to the value they displayed when the spectra were recorded. Understanding the culture helps organizations come up with the best strategy to penetrate the new market and this can be by standardizing their marketing strategy or by customizing their marketing strategy to meet the needs and tastes of consumers in the foreign country. Hofstede’s cultural dimensions can be a tool that organizations can use to understand foreign cultures. Ferroelectric, pyroelectric, and photovoltaic effects in the bismuth titanate (Bi4Ti3O12, BIT) and the lanthanum bismuth titanate (LaxBi4-xTi3O 12, LBIT) solid solution thin films were studied. Films were successfully prepared using the metalorganic spin-casting technique. The development of texture orientation in different directions in the bismuth titanate films was examined in relation to solution characteristics such as solution viscosity, Bi-content, and the heat-treatment conditions, including the sintering temperature/time. X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy and electron microscopy techniques were used to structurally characterize orientation formation in the films. Experimental results indicate that Bi-excess and sintering temperature/time are the critical factors governing controlled growth of films with preferred orientation. The bismuth excess is to compensate for the Bi loss during the fabrication process. Films with high degree of c-orientation, as high as 0.95--0.97, were obtained with the heterostructure layer deposition technique. Measurements of pyroelectric and photoelectric properties of BIT films with preferred orientation in both a- and c-directions showed significantly high responses. Indications are that these oriented films can be materials suitable for the integrated pyroelectric detector applications. The high pyroelectric response in the films was attributed to the comparatively high value of pyroelectric coefficient, relatively low dielectric constant, and low thermal time constant. The use of lanthanum in substitution of Bi ions in the BIT lattice to form the LBIT solid solution, led to the alteration of the lattice strain, as revealed by the corresponding Raman shift spectra. Result was a lower switching field and higher spontaneous polarization in comparison with BIT and many other ferroelectric film materials. This effect was attributed to, in part, a high domain wall mobility. These results suggest that LBIT films are materials highly suitable for the ferroelectric random access memory capacitors.

The SETI Institute, the California Academy of Sciences, NASA Ames Research Center, and San Francisco State University have developed standards-based curriculum materials for a one-year high school integrated science course centered on the unifying theme of evolution. Scientists, teachers, curriculum writers, and media specialists are currently finalizing six modules that integrate astronomical, geological, and biological sciences as well as the history of science and technology. The sequence of lessons in each module is designed to promote students' understanding and skills as defined by the National Science Education Standards and Benchmarks for Science Literacy. The modules cover: Cosmic Evolution, Planetary Evolution, Origin of Life, Evolution of Life, Hominid Evolution, and the Evolution of Technology.
