Global trends

Global Christianity is in crisis. Symptoms include decline of the Christian Church in the West, social and personal identity crisis, global environmental crisis, mere cultural Christianity, and a major discipleship gap. The underlying issue is the church’s loss of ancient wisdom about people, the land, and God.

تتناول الدراسة أربعة محاور للإجابة على أسئلة الدراسة في محاولة لوضع معالم الطموحات المستقبلية لدور الأكاديمية المهنية للمعلمين في تدعيم التنمية المهنية لأعضاء هيئة التعليم في ضوء الاتجاهات العالمية المعاصرة على النحو الآتي:

Esta publicación analiza las principales tendencias en el sistema internacional: seguridad y violencia transnacional, la ayuda al desarrollo y la Declaración de París, globalización y medios de comunicación, la nueva geopolítica del petróleo y las guerras asimétricas. Asimismo analiza algunas regiones como China y sus relaciones con Estados Unidos, el actual ciclo político , las propuestas para la integración en en América Latina, y la crisis de la Gran Asia Occidental.

Tendencias Globales hacia 2025: las fuerzas que están empujando al mundo, la economía y la sociedad, y una guía sobre los retos que enfrentarán las empresas, los gobiernos y las organizaciones sociales y cómo adoptar y adaptarse a las tendencias.

La masificación del sistema de educación superior es una de las tendencias globales que más impacto ha tenido en Latinoamérica. Este fenómeno ha generado debate en torno a quiénes ofrecen este servicio (el estado y/o el sector privado), cuál es el rol del estado y de los estudiantes en el financiamiento, cuestiones de calidad educativa y el desafío de enseñar a estudiantes con perfiles muy diversos. También, la estratificación en el acceso así como entre instituciones se ha convertido en objeto de cuestionamiento y ha promovido la implementación de políticas y estrategias para su abordaje. En este artículo, se examinan las principales características de los sistemas de educación superior en la región de Latinoamérica para luego abordar críticamente estas cuestiones. El artículo finaliza con reflexiones acerca de la relevancia de implementar políticas y estrategias institucionales para corregir la inequidad del sistema y permitir a todos/as los/as estudiantes desarrollar habilidades básicas que promuevan un aprendizaje integral.

Today, cities the world over are entangled in aspirational uture visions, as regions compete with others in different parts of the world for investment, tourists, and talent to guarantee econom-ic growth. Tis paper approaches the cities of Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, and Vienna via their self-presentations and projections of the future. It sees cities as learning assemblages and pays attention to the narrative construction of imaginaries and future trajectories, as depicted in the respective city galleries and planning museums. All cities are aound to be entangled in interna-tional policy trends and, in their unique ways, strive for recognition, competitiveness, and conviviality. Singapore emerges as torn between ambition, transparency, and control, while wanting to foster creativity and revive its cultural heritage; Kuala Lumpur appears simultaneously geared by boosterism and at home in opacity and multiplicity, privileging Malays while trying not to alienate other ethnic groups; and Vienna ambivalently projects a future that reconciles nostalgia for monarchic splendor and the social-democratic heritage of egalitarian urbanism with ambi-tions for international recognition and newly popular trends for citizen participation and “rights to the city.

There are many approaches of understanding of marketing in various countries. On the other hand, a company,
which has a global presence, acts similarly in different countries and create different effects for local economies. The
paper overviews how marketing plays its role in providing global inefficiency in period of global trends for efficiency.
In addition, it aims to uncover key issues of marketing, which create a negative perception of marketing and lead to
periodic economic crises in economies. Understanding that many markets of the global environment are not mature
for changes, there is a strong necessity to evaluate various issues of marketing and advise some ideas on a new

Продолжая тему связей разрушения природных биомов с появлением новых болезней, мы перевели статью K.F.Smith c соавт. (2014) «Глобальный подъём вспышек инфекционных болезней человека». Она посвящена одному из следствий глобального капитализма - роста частоты инфекционных заболеваний, особенно природно-очаговых, пропорционально тому, как существующая мир-экономика "пережёвывает" природу и интенсифицирует дальние перевозки (судя по данным о морском трафике, в 2-3 раза с 1990-х гг.).
подтверждается вывод предыдущих работ, что зоонозы - явление более молодое для человеческой популяции, чем антропонозы. К нему она ещё не начала приспосабливаться, а ускоренное разрушение природных биомов, до этого тысячелетиями остававшихся почти интактными, усиливает их давление на нас (причём на всех нас, благодаря глобализации, тогда как до 1950-х гг. те же факторы действовали почти только на местных и небольшое число «белых» колонистов).

Напротив, патогены, вызывающие антропонозы, сейчас оказываются менее опасными, чем в прошлом. Авторы даже подозревают, что число зоонозов ими преуменьшено т.к. многие из них с запозданием регистрируются как отдельные заболевания, т.к. в странах, больше всего страдающих от зоонозов, медицина развита хуже всего.

This paper shortly reviews the theories about innovation and evaluates the ingredients and perspectives of development of innovation policy in Kazakhstan. In the period of implementation of new economic reforms, Kazakhstan focused on extraction and export of natural resources. During realization of state programs, many innovation projects fail. Therefore, paper aims to investigate the main barriers and perspectives by providing policy recommendations for Government of Kazakhstan. In the period of further privatization of state organizations in Kazakhstan and globalization trends, the paper demonstrate a strong necessity for changes in present innovation programs. Understanding that a market capacity for innovation in Kazakhstan is limited, the paper aims to focus on ideas of export-oriented innovations.

#InclusiveCity

Are communities helpless victims in a global flow of events?  Or can place-based leadership lead to the creation of more inclusive cities, notwithstanding the continuing pressures of placeless power?

Robin Hambleton will draw on research carried out in the preparation of a new book, Leading the Inclusive City.  Place-based innovation for a bounded planet, to argue that civic leadership can make a significant difference to the quality of life in a city.  The book examines progressive civic leadership in seventeen cities in fourteen different countries.

This presentation will:

Examine global urban trends and explore the growing significance of cities in our globalising world
Provide a new conceptual framework for understanding place-based civic leadership
Present evidence from across the world to show that cities are taking decisive action to shape the city according to progressive values

Robin Hambleton is Professor of City Leadership in the Faculty of Environment and Technology at the University of the West of England, Bristol and Director of Urban Answers – a UK based company.

He has worked in local and central government in the UK, held professorial positions in urban planning, city management and public administration at universities in Britain and the USA, and provided consultancy services to public authorities in many countries.  He was the founding President of the European Urban Research Association (EURA) and was Dean of the College of Urban Planning and Public Affairs (CUPPA) at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Background
Low haemoglobin concentrations and anaemia are important risk factors for the health and development of women and children. We estimated trends in the distributions of haemoglobin concentration and in the prevalence of anaemia and severe anaemia in young children and pregnant and non-pregnant women between 1995 and 2011.
Methods
We obtained data about haemoglobin and anaemia for children aged 6—59 months and women of childbearing age (15—49 years) from 257 population-representative data sources from 107 countries worldwide. We used health, nutrition, and household surveys; summary statistics from WHO's Vitamin and Mineral Nutrition Information System; and summary statistics reported by other national and international agencies. We used a Bayesian hierarchical mixture model to estimate haemoglobin distributions and systematically addressed missing data, non-linear time trends, and representativeness of data sources. We quantified the uncertainty of our estimates.
Findings
Global mean haemoglobin improved slightly between 1995 and 2011, from 125 g/L (95% credibility interval 123—126) to 126 g/L (124—128) in non-pregnant women, from 112 g/L (111—113) to 114 g/L (112—116) in pregnant women, and from 109 g/L (107—111) to 111 g/L (110—113) in children. Anaemia prevalence decreased from 33% (29—37) to 29% (24—35) in non-pregnant women, from 43% (39—47) to 38% (34—43) in pregnant women, and from 47% (43—51) to 43% (38—47) in children. These prevalences translated to 496 million (409—595 million) non-pregnant women, 32 million (28—36 million) pregnant women, and 273 million (242—304 million) children with anaemia in 2011. In 2011, concentrations of mean haemoglobin were lowest and anaemia prevalence was highest in south Asia and central and west Africa.
Interpretation
Children's and women's haemoglobin statuses improved in some regions where concentrations had been low in the 1990s, leading to a modest global increase in mean haemoglobin and a reduction in anaemia prevalence. Further improvements are needed in some regions, particularly south Asia and central and west Africa, to improve the health of women and children and achieve global targets for reducing anaemia.

ENG: In the context of dynamically changing global and regional conditions, the ability to forecast and integrate sectoral risks into strategic planning enhances the success of security management of various types of projects - at the level of individual business decisions, through local government, to national institutions and entities. This monograph provides the necessary set of theoretical information about the tools used in sectoral analysis for security. Through the book, the reader will get an overview of strategic planning and analysis methods: foresight, Delphi, PEST, scenario and SWOT. In addition, the examples of strategic planning discussed in the book show how specific instruments can be used and applied to create visions and strategies for the development of different areas of sectoral activity. The value of the book is therefore its practical character, as holistic consideration of different types of risks and the interactions between them leads to avoiding failures or reducing losses.

METHODS:
We analysed, with use of a consistent protocol, population-based studies that had measured height and weight in adults aged 18 years and older. We applied a Bayesian hierarchical model to these data to estimate trends from 1975 to 2014 in mean BMI and in the prevalences of BMI categories (<18·5 kg/m(2) [underweight], 18·5 kg/m(2) to <20 kg/m(2), 20 kg/m(2) to <25 kg/m(2), 25 kg/m(2) to <30 kg/m(2), 30 kg/m(2) to <35 kg/m(2), 35 kg/m(2) to <40 kg/m(2), ≥40 kg/m(2) [morbid obesity]), by sex in 200 countries and territories, organised in 21 regions. We calculated the posterior probability of meeting the target of halting by 2025 the rise in obesity at its 2010 levels, if post-2000 trends continue.
FINDINGS:
We used 1698 population-based data sources, with more than 19·2 million adult participants (9·9 million men and 9·3 million women) in 186 of 200 countries for which estimates were made. Global age-standardised mean BMI increased from 21·7 kg/m(2) (95% credible interval 21·3-22·1) in 1975 to 24·2 kg/m(2) (24·0-24·4) in 2014 in men, and from 22·1 kg/m(2) (21·7-22·5) in 1975 to 24·4 kg/m(2) (24·2-24·6) in 2014 in women. Regional mean BMIs in 2014 for men ranged from 21·4 kg/m(2) in central Africa and south Asia to 29·2 kg/m(2) (28·6-29·8) in Polynesia and Micronesia; for women the range was from 21·8 kg/m(2) (21·4-22·3) in south Asia to 32·2 kg/m(2) (31·5-32·8) in Polynesia and Micronesia. Over these four decades, age-standardised global prevalence of underweight decreased from 13·8% (10·5-17·4) to 8·8% (7·4-10·3) in men and from 14·6% (11·6-17·9) to 9·7% (8·3-11·1) in women. South Asia had the highest prevalence of underweight in 2014, 23·4% (17·8-29·2) in men and 24·0% (18·9-29·3) in women. Age-standardised prevalence of obesity increased from 3·2% (2·4-4·1) in 1975 to 10·8% (9·7-12·0) in 2014 in men, and from 6·4% (5·1-7·8) to 14·9% (13·6-16·1) in women. 2·3% (2·0-2·7) of the world's men and 5·0% (4·4-5·6) of women were severely obese (ie, have BMI ≥35 kg/m(2)). Globally, prevalence of morbid obesity was 0·64% (0·46-0·86) in men and 1·6% (1·3-1·9) in women.
INTERPRETATION:
If post-2000 trends continue, the probability of meeting the global obesity target is virtually zero. Rather, if these trends continue, by 2025, global obesity prevalence will reach 18% in men and surpass 21% in women; severe obesity will surpass 6% in men and 9% in women. Nonetheless, underweight remains prevalent in the world's poorest regions, especially in south Asia.
