Emigrants

Several modern Greek dramatists staged plays about the various types of the
Greek emigrant experience in the aftermath of the Second World War in which
they debated issues of national origin, cultural identity, and assimilation
or alienation. One of them, Petros Markaris, dealt with the Greek emigrant
experience in West Germany in his play, The Guests. This play dramatizes
the difficult living conditions of Greek emigrants who struggled for survival
and integration in their host countries. Loula Anagnostaki took a different
approach in three of her plays, Antonio, The Victory, and To My Listeners.
In these plays she presents Greek emigrants who are political dissidents
with serious psychological problems, haunted by their past experiences in Greece
and by present difficulties in their host countries. My focus here covers only a
fraction of the problematic status of the foreigner and his/her representation
in modern Greek drama.

Early law in the United States did not recognize children as individual rights holders independent of their parents. The law considered children as wage-earning assets of their fathers, in which “their services, earnings and the like became the property of their paternal masters in exchange for life and maintenance” (Woodhouse, 1992: 1037). The nineteenth century was marked by, what Stanley Cohen has termed a profound “moral panic” concerning gangs of children overstepping the confines of childhood and threatening “societal values and interests” particularly among new immigrant communities (Cohen, 1972: 9; Pearson, 1985: 63; Davin, 1990). The article presents the currently important sources for studying Russian emigration to Italy after 1918. During the 1920s — 1930s and after the Second World War the most important funds of documents were being formed in Italy and in Russia as well. These funds include not only the correspondence between emigrants or their private documents, but the materials about emigrants' social and economic standing abroad. It is important to determine what funds and documents in Italian and Russian archives contain nowadays necessary and unpublished information for the future study of Russian emigrants' history in Italy. Through the example of three large archives — Central State Archive of Rome, Roman Archive of Vyacheslav Ivanov, State Archive of Russian Federation — are chosen the archival documents. Its analysis is currently central for the future studying of the theme. The Central State Archive of Rome stores the materials about cultural contacts of the URSS and Italy in the mid-1930s, in particular, about the XIII International Congress of Architects in Rome. Roman Archive of Vyacheslav Ivanov has a significant amount of correspondence of one of the most important representatives of Russian emigration to Italy. On the basis of these documents we can select the circle of the main Ivanov's correspondents, as well as the themes of the key figures' of Russian culture in exile correspondence. From the materials of the State Archive of the Russian Federation it is important to analyze the documents from the fund of the historian E. F. Shmurlo, especially his social activity in Rome (in particular, the fate of " Russian academic group " in Rome). In addition, the archive contains documents describing the attempts of Russian immigrants to unite under the social and public organizations in Italy, to be absorbed in the Italian socio-cultural context. In general, the further analysis of the documentation of the Russian and Italian archives is necessary for the study of cultural transfer between the USSR and Italy, one of the most important trends of the modern study of the topic. Es lohnt sich wohl, neu darüber nachzudenken, was ein politischer Flüchtling ist. Wegen ihrer politischen Überzeugung Ausgegrenzte und Verfolgte gibt es nicht nur „außerhalb des Landes […], dessen Staatsangehörigkeit“ sie besitzen (Artikel des Abkommens über die Rechtsstellung der Flüchtlinge vom 28.07.1951), und mittlerweile kann nicht mehr jeder politisch Andersdenkende in Deutschland den Schutz seines Landes in Anspruch nehmen. Es gibt aktuell wohl ein wachsendes Inneres Exil in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland.

Benjamin Fondane' (1898-1944), poète juif roumain exilé en France en 1924, nous a laissé une oeuvre poétique hantée par l'exil sous le titre général du Mal des fantômes. Je me propose d'interroger la mythification du moi dans ses grandes oeuvres poétiques et en particulier dans Ulysse (1933), Titanic (1937) et L'Exode (1965). Le «je narratif » du poète, en sollicitant diverses figures mythiques ou religieuse de la tradition grecque ou judaïque, puis le paradigme catastrophiste du naufrage du Titanic parviennent-ils à la structuration narrative de sa propre existence ? La judaïsisation de la figure d'Ulysse qu'elle propose n'est-elle pas plutôt apte à exprimer la déréalisation des hommes par la temporalité et l'exil ? Je vais tenter de parcourir la relation existant entre la déréalisation du moi consécutive à l'exil et la réaffirmation poétique du «je » errant pour montrer que cette dernière constitue une attestation existentielle plutôt qu'une identité narrative du poète. À travers cette attestation, les délocalisations historiques {L'Exode) ou existentielles (Ulysse et Titanic) de l'homme confronté aux grandes migrations, au malheur individuel et aux dépossessions culturelles, instaurent un « je » errant qui rejoint, comme chez Walt Whitman, un corps souffrant universel. Notre thèse centrale est que l'ancrage autobiographique dans le poème fondanien sert de support à un dépassement de la « fantômatisation du moi » en ouvrant un espace de réhabilitation éthique avec le lecteur.

This study evaluates European Union (EU) experience of the mobility of skilled labor migrants after the 2004 and 2007 EU enlargements and from the European Neighborhood Policy (ENP) countries. The study concludes that migration generally improves the allocated efficiency of labor markets and there is little if any evidence of statistically significant or economically relevant negative aggregate effects of migration on receiving labor markets. While outflow of young and skilled workers may pose risks to sending countries' economic prospects and public finance, circular migration, brain gain, and remittances attenuate such risks, and have the potential to become powerful engines of convergence. Obstructive legislation and ill-designed migration policies impede migration and deprive sending and receiving of such potential benefits.

"On December 12, 2011, the Council of Ministers in Lebanon unanimously approved the draft law extending the reacquisition of citizenship by descendants of Lebanese emigrants.
Under this draft law, descendants of expatriates of Lebanese origin holding documents that prove patrilineal Lebanese ancestry may apply for Lebanese citizenship if they choose to through a simplified procedure set forth in the draft law. Although previously the lack of documents proving Lebanese lineage made it difficult for Lebanese descendents to acquire citizenship, the draft law includes a wider and more realistic set of provisions that prove Lebanese lineage.  The burden of proof of lineage continues to rest on the applicant, but the new draft law has added criteria that are less complicated to meet. Lebanon does not prohibit dual citizenship but rather tolerates it and as such applicants for Lebanese citizenship can apply without fear of having to renounce their current citizenship.  According to a brief interview with MP Ghassan E. Moukheiber, “the draft law will be submitted to Parliament and a simple majority vote would make it into law” (personal communication December 15, 2011). Mr. Moukheiber envisages that, assuming that the draft law is not subject to amendment by Parliament, the law will pass without controversy, as it was approved by the Parliamentary Administrative and Justice Committee in the previous Parliament  of 2005- 2009."

Global processes significantly affect the mobility of the population. In the context of geopolitical transformation, globalization and quarantine restrictions of Covid-19, it is important to predict the development of the migration movement of countries that are developing. Therefore, the article is aimed at modelling migration changes according to alternative scenarios using the example of Ukraine. The theoretical and methodological basis of the research is formed by a number of scientific works of leading scientists from different countries, statistical information on migration processes and socioeconomic indicators of Ukraine's development, economic, mathematical and scenario methods. In the course of the study, the main factors were identified that more affect the migration processes of Ukraine, taking into account the trends in the impact of Covid-19 on them. These include population size, life expectancy, GDP per capita, average monthly wages, and the volume of remittances from individuals to Ukraine. In this systematic review we sought to identify how the public health literature focusing on Hispanic populations in the United States defined and measured the concept of acculturation. A review of 134 studies found considerable variation in the definition and measurement of this construct. The ten acculturation scales used provided little theoretical orientation. It was unclear the extent to which acculturative changes in attitudes, beliefs and behaviors were captured by current measurement tools, as these primarily measure linguistic elements. We suggest future research should refine existing tools, determine their validity and usefulness across ethnic and subethnic groups, and identify which aspects of acculturation these scales and indices reliably measure. Recommendations for use of acculturation instruments in public health practice with Hispanic populations are included.

The aim of the present report was to observe the trend of seroprevalence rates of HIV seropositivity for routine services at Siriraj Hospital for 13 years. The prevalence rate of HIV seropositivity was analyzed in three groups of subjects: 1) patients who attended the hospital with HIV related diseases; 2) pregnant women at first visit to the antenatal care clinic; 3) emigrating workers who have applied for employment in foreign countries. Of the 13 year-observation, HIV seroprevalence rates in the groups of patients, pregnant women and emigrating workers was 10.6% (95%CI 8.9-12.3%), 2.0% (95%CI 1.8-2.2%) and 0.6% (95%CI 0.4-0.8%), respectively. The low prevalence of HIV seropositivity in the group of emigrating workers may be due to self selection, whereas the prevalence in pregnant women, which was rather consistent at about 2.0%, may represent the infection rate in the general population. This book is investigating the architecture of Austro-fascism, seizing power in 1933 after a parliamentary crisis and lasting until the socalled "Anschluss" in 1938. With the help of the Catholic Church, the executive forces, Mussolini and the paramilitarian Heimwehr forces and promoting a one-party authoritarian state, Austro-fascism was anti-democratic, antiparliamentarian, anti- socialist but also anti-Nazist while trying to position Austria as the second and better German state in Europe, relying on the support of the middle class and imposing a new Austrian patriotism based upon glorification of the Habsburg past and the alpine landscape.
Architecture was an important part of the political discourse, but, also due to the postwar ignorance of the period, the built heritage of"Black Vienna" has become unrecognizable and invisible within Vienna's cityscape. This brought me to the question Austrian scholar F. Achleitner asked in 1981: "Is there any such thing as Austro-Fascist architecture?" My book is analyzing  the architectural production of the time within the framework of architectural language, unwanted heritage, and modern conservativism in fascist regimes of the 1930s. There is an Austro-fascist architecture, but as those in power failed to assign meaning to her vocabulary, her language cannot be read an understood any more.
