Education science outreach

Os Centros e Museus de Ciências se encontram em quase sua totalidade nas grandes cidades. Isto ocorre devido ao fato de que a maioria dos museus de ciência pertencerem às universidades, normalmente localizadas nas áreas metropolitanas (Gaspar, 1993). Dessa forma, a população do interior fica com pouco ou sem nenhum acesso aos serviços fornecidos por estas instituições e se torna de fundamental importância superar esta ausência, e com isso oportunizar a população do interior do Estado da Bahia. A divulgação científica aproxima o público da compreensão do que é feito em ciência e de seus processos, veiculando informações que auxiliam na melhoria da qualidade de vida além de ajudar na formação de cidadãos dentro de um processo de inclusão científica.
Uma forma de inclusão científica para esse público são os museus de ciências itinerantes. Estes levam a esta população o acesso aos diversos conhecimentos do campo do saber, além de despertar nos jovens o interesse na carreira científica (Ferreira, Soares e Oliveira, 2007).
As exposições trazem o novo e isso aguça a curiosidade. Portanto, dentre as atividades utilizadas na busca de renovação e dinamização de uma instituição de difusão, está à elaboração de exposições temporárias, as quais, se acrescidas de características itinerantes, ampliam o raio de atuação do elemento difusor de informações (Pizarro, 2007).    Existem no Brasil algumas instituições que realizam atividades que possuem esta natureza, tais como o Caminhão com Ciência da Universidade Estadual de Santa Cruz (Ilhéus / BA), Ciência Móvel – Vida E Saúde Para Todos (Museu da Vida / COC / FIOCRUZ); Ciência Móvel (Espaço Ciência – Sec. C&T e Meio Ambiente PE); Ciência na Estrada (Centro de Pesquisas Gonçalo Moniz / FIOCRUZ); Ciência para Poetas Na Escola (Casa da Ciência – UFRJ); Clorofila Científica e Cultural dos Manguezais do Pará (Grupo de Ação Ecológica Novos Curupiras); Experimentoteca Móvel (UNB); Laboratório Itinerante Tecnologia. Com. Ciência (UFRGS); Oficina Desafio (Museu Exploratório de Ciências – UNICAMP); PROMUSIT (PUCRS).
Desde o ano de 2003, o Observatório Astronômico Antares, atualmente elevado ao status de Museu Antares de C&T (MACT), iniciou um conjunto de atividades com intuito de promover e difundir as ciências no estado da Bahia. O projeto inicial tem como carro chefe a Astronomia, utilizando a atratividade e interdisciplinaridade desta ciência para também promover outras ciências, tais como a Física, Química e Matemática. De forma a tornar as ações do projeto mais abrangentes em termos espaciais, diante da grande atratividade causada pelas seções de planetário, a partir de 2007 foram iniciadas atividades itinerantes. Esta vertente do projeto, chamada de Projeto Itinerante de Popularização de Ciências e Astronomia (PIPOCA), atuando em escolas e locais públicos de várias localidades de Feira de Santana e do interior da Bahia. Além do planetário inflável, o projeto também é acompanhado por seções de observação do Céu e experimentos. Para realizar estas atividades o projeto conta com professores, funcionários e bolsistas do MACT.

Archaeology might be defined simply as the study of 'the human altered world'. Until recently, traces of humanity's past could have only been found on Earth. But, as our influence continues to expand beyond, we must consider human activities and human-made objects in space and how they—as extensions of ourselves—impact other worlds and the spaces between. This is 'space archaeology'.

En este trabajo presentamos una serie de elementos metodológicos y unas herramientas didácticas que nacieron y se desarrollaron en el marco de nuestros proyectos y acciones de divulgación inclusiva. Ello incluye reflexiones generales sobre cómo estructurar proyectos y programas divulgativos, pautas metodológicas para la colaboración interdisciplinar y el trabajo con diferentes grupos y colectivos, indicaciones sobre la evaluación crítica de las actividades y varios ejemplos de tales herramientas divulgativas específicas.

The 2016 Total Solar Eclipse provided us an opportunity to introduce astronomy to a much wider audience. The path of totality crossed the Indonesia from Sumatra to the Maluku Islands and ended its journey in the Pacific Ocean. Its path crossed over 4 major islands, 12 provinces and many cities. Most of the cities have minimum exposure to astronomy. langitselatan travelled to observe the eclipse and to do astronomy outreach at the eastern most island under the eclipse path. We chose Maba, a small village in East Halmahera, North Maluku as our site to observe the eclipse as well as conduct a workshop for teachers and students. The aim of the workshop is to introduce astronomy taking advantage of the eclipse as well as raise awareness and curiosity among students. In this paper, we will share a short report regarding the whole trip and event in Maba.

The Australian National Curriculum promotes Indigenous culture in school education programs. To foster a broader appreciation of cultural astronomy, to utilise the unique astronomical heritage of the site, and to develop an educational program within the framework of the National Curriculum, Sydney Observatory launched Dreamtime Astronomy—a program incorporating Australian Indigenous culture, astronomy, and Sydney's astronomical history and heritage. This paper reviews the development and implementation of this program and discusses modifications following an evaluation that was conducted by schools.

Legislative Assembly for the ACT, MR DOSZPOT (Molonglo) (5.37): On Saturday morning I had the pleasure of launching the Dinosaurs Down Under travelling paleontological roadshow, which is one of the activities supported under the umbrella of National Science Week. This road show provides clear evidence that the way to inspire children to grow into talented, inquiring adults is to make natural history real, to challenge their thinking and to tell a story. The importance of science in our everyday lives cannot be over-emphasized. As we become more and more dependent on new technologies to feed, clothe and house the world's billions, science will become ever more critical to that task.

The Origins of Doha project explores the foundation and the historic growth of Doha, its transformation into a modern city, and the lives and experiences of its people through a combination of archaeological investigation, historical research and oral testimony. This project employs a variety of outreach strategies, including re-photography, social media, and multimedia-enhanced, online GIS to raise awareness about the increasingly threatened urban heritage beneath the modern landscape. These strategies address the challenges of conducting archaeological outreach amongst a rapidly changing and diverse population with widely varying perceptions of heritage. In this paper we discuss digital archaeology, outreach and contested heritage from the first urban excavations in the Arabian Gulf, with an emphasis on pragmatic, modular, and adaptable strategies for meaningful, multivalent archaeological interpretation.

Animation students at the Maryland Institute College of Art working with scientists in the Fermi team at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center produced five short animations (and an associated game) related to science discoveries and operations of the Fermi satellite. The topics animated were the Fermi bubbles, dark matter, binary stars, the discovery of cosmic rays, and space debris. We describe the process, show examples of the animations, and discuss the potential of art/science collaborations for public outreach and education.
