Background: 3D-Virtual Reality Learning Environments (3D-VRLEs) have proven effective in stimulating student engagement in teaching and learning processes. However, some principles should be considered before introducing and implementing these learning environments in science education. This paper aims to document the principles that guide the design and development of the 3D-VRLE in science education and to draw the implications for the Omani educational context. Methods: A design-based research (DBR) methodology was conducted to gather data using two instruments: literature review and semi-structured interviews. One specialist developer and two Subject Matter Experts were selected for interviews using purposeful sampling. The in-person interviews consisted of seven questions and a three-hour discussion. The questions were centered on the technological features of 3D-VRLE applications, the instructional design process used to develop these educational applications, and the design principles used in their development. Keywords used for the literature review included biology, physics, chemistry, science, DBR, 3D-virtual reality, lab, and learning environment. Inductive thematic analysis was used as a technique for analyzing the interview data. Results: The findings pointed to a systematic and planned design process for 3D-VRLE in accordance with the ADDIE model. It was found that the design principles of the 3D-VRLE should include authentic and instructionally grounded systems, a collaborative and motivating environment, and student-centered instruction. Conclusion: 3D-VRLEs may have significant implications for the teaching of science in terms of the physical arrangement of classrooms, the way the teacher delivers the topic, the number of students in the classroom, and the type of technology that needs to be adopted in schools. This study presented the blueprints required by Omani science curriculum designers for the design/development of 3D-VRLE. This allows them to take the initiative in design and production of relevant learning materials and products and use them effectively in the educational context of Oman.

The study aimed to establish a digital economy base in the education sector, instill a digital economic culture in institutions and individuals, build an effective educational digital economy, activate its role in facing the education sector's challenges and know the reality and requirements necessary to activate. The qualitative approach was used, and many local and global subject-relevant studies and documents were analysed. Several results were reached, the most important: education in the Sultanate of Oman faces several challenges, including (reliance on the government as a primary financing source, lack of income source diversification, high costs of technical projects, Fourth Industrial Revolution requirements, and legislative regulations that are not supportive of technology investment. The Ministry of Education`s efforts contributed to the digital transformation during the COVID-19 pandemic by facing the crisis and reducing educational and economic losses. Currently, there is no planned investment for the technical projects applied in the ministry economically. The digital economy contributes to diversifying income sources and reducing the burden on the budget. The digital economy activates education through technology production, application, and investment. Among the requirements for activating the digital economy at the institutional level (digital transformation, technological investment supporting plans, instilling a digital economy culture, processes re-engineering, enabling policies and legislation system, updating structural systems, establishing technological infrastructure, strategic decision). At the educational process level (modifying the study plan, including technology study materials, providing laboratories and a stimulating environment, activities, and events to support innovation in schools, motivating and supporting innovators by the government and private sectors, and encouraging technological investment).

The current status of the 4th industrial revolution has offered some sophisticated technological tools for higher education institutions. One of these technologies is distance learning based on Internet of Things tools and cloud computing, that make the student the main pillar of learning, through engaging in Flipped Learning Model (FLM). For successful IT integration in higher education, designing a distance-learning training platform is vital. Although research has identified the factors that can directly determine the behavioral intention to use technology, little is known about the effects of these factors on the successful design of a distance-training platform. Therefore, this study examines the effects of these factors in determining the successful design and use of IoT-applications through distance learning platform based on FLM for higher education within the context of Oman technological colleges. This would be implemented by developing a conceptual framework in scope of the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT), Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), and literature review. Data will be collected from employees at these colleges, and analyzed using partial least squares—structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM), in addition to the Importance-Performance Map Analysis (IPMA).

This paper summarizes one-year research project funded by the College of Education at Sultan Qaboos University. The study aims to investigate the impact of using augmented reality system as a tool to enhance students' motivation and understanding in Machine Dynamics course and compare this new approach with traditional learning approaches. The experimental design to be used for this study for 30 students from college of engineering at Sultan Qaboos University. Students will be randomly assigned to two groups (15 students each): experimental and control group. Both groups to be taught one chapter from Machine Dynamics Course during four weeks by the same teacher. The experimental group to use the Aurasma application, so students in this group are allowed only to use iPads. On the other hand, the students in the control group are going to study the same chapter using the traditional method. Students' understanding and motivation towards the augmented reality system (Aurasma) to be measured by using observation method. More specifically, times of students' access to the augmented reality application on iPad or textbook to study and get information are to be calculated. Students' performance or understanding of the materials to be measured on weekly basis using achievement tests. INTRODUCTION Nowadays, technology has been integrated into many fields; education is one of the main fields. It was observed that technology made a great transition in improving the educational process. Day by day, different technologies have been involved and it was observed from the results of (M. M. Chiu, B. W.-Y. Chow, and C. Mcbride-Chang, 2007) study which shows that despite of different learning strategies, still there is a necessity to integrate complementary technologies which will help in enhancing to develop new kinds of learning environments for both teachers and learners. Augmented Reality applications are one of those new technologies that are used because of its effectiveness in the educational process. The main idea to use the augmented reality is to enhance the learner's senses by manipulating virtual objects with the real world (R. Azuma, 1997). According to (G. Chang, P. Morreale, and P. Medicherla, 2010), the augmented reality takes down shorthand the gap between the real world and the virtual world. Further, (A. Cascales, I. Laguna, D. Pérez-López, P. Perona, and M. Control, 2013) found that augmented reality applications play a good role in providing a real motivation and stimulus for the children and teachers observed a very positive impact on them. Also, it promotes active behavior in the student, communication skills, and all kinds of interactions in the classroom. Moreover, the augmented reality helps the students to learn more as there was a positive impact in achieving the learning goals with those who used the augmented reality more than those who didn't use it. Also, (M. Billinghurst and A. Dünser, 2012) indicates that augmented reality applications motivate students to explore their surroundings and collaboratively develop their problem solving skills. On the other hand, it was detected Some obstacles that remain in making AR experiences part of the average classroom. One is the lack of content-creation tools. Many educational content developers, such as teachers, do not have the highly developed programming and 3D modeling skills currently required to design AR experiences. Unless tools become usable without such skills, AR interfaces most likely will not catch on in the mainstream curriculum (M. Billinghurst and A. Dünser, 2012). Augmented Reality and understanding Some innovations of Augmented Reality have been developed and are being used to enhance the learning and training efficiency of the students. Several studies suggest that AR contributes to improve student's comprehension and the understanding of the content. (Shelton, 2004) indicates the significant role of augmented reality in enhancing students understanding in astronomy class. His study described the following: The virtual sun and earth are manipulated on a small hand-held platform that changes its orientation in coordination with the viewing perspective of the student. The student controls the angle of viewing in order to understand how unseen elements work in conjunction with those that were previously seen. As another example for the employment of AR in astronomy, (Johnson, et. Al, 2010) described Google's SkyMap as an application

Data will be collected from employees at these colleges, and analyzed using partial least squares-structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM), in addition to the Importance-Performance Map Analysis (IPMA).

The research on students' use of social media in educational fields and environments in the Arabian States of the Gulf region is scarce and scattered. This chapter explores research in this area by analyzing results from previous studies on the patterns of students' use of social media in learning and exchange of information. The chapter first selects literature sources with specific scope and procedures to locate studies that meet a set of criteria. Comprehensive reviews of relevant studies are conducted to collect information, which is followed, by conclusions and recommendations.
