Motivation to Learn

The purposes of this study were to construct a training programme based on the CoRT programme and to measure its effects in enhancing critical thinking (CT) and improving motivation to learn for sixth grade student with Learning Difficulties (LDs) in mathematics in Jordan. The pre-test-post-test control-group design, which is a popular approach to the quasi-experimental statistical research, was used in the study, in which the independent variable was the modified CoRT programme (MCoRTP) exposed to the experimental group, while the control group was not given any training. There were two dependent variables in this study, namely, the level of students’ CT skills and their motivation to learn (MTL). Two instruments were used, a critical thinking test (CTT), which assessed the students’ level of critical thinking, and a questionnaire for assessing the level of their MTL. These instruments were applied to the sample of the study as both pre-test and post-test. The sample consisted of 93 sixth-grade students from schools in First Amman Educational Directorate in Jordan. The participants of the sample were distributed into two groups. After that, one group was randomly chosen to be the experimental group, and the other one to be the control group. A total of 43 (male=21, female=22) students received the MCoRTP, while 50 (male=25, female=25) did not receive any training. All the students had LDs in mathematics only and were enrolled at learning resources rooms in regular schools. This study used quantitative method. The collected data analyses were carried out using analysis of covariance (1 and 2 way ANCOVA) to measure the effects of the training programme in enhancing the level of CT and improving the level of MTL. Results showed that the training programme had a very large -sized effect on the participants' CT and MTL. Gender was found to be of significant effect on the participants' CT and MTL in the post-test, when the effect of the pre-test results of the CTT and questionnaire of the MTL of the students is controlled. However, the interaction between gender and group significant differences were found favouring to the male students in the post-test of the CTT , when the effect of the pre-test results of the CTT of the students is controlled. While the pre-test was controlled, the score of female students exceeded the male students in the post-test of the MTL.

The present study investigates the concept of organizational learning culture in a public service organization and focuses on its relationship with motivation to learn, job satisfaction, organizational commitment and job involvement. Data was collected from 119 employees of a public service organization. In all 200 questionnaires were distributed and participation was voluntary and confidentiality was ensured. One hundred and nineteen fully completed questionnaires were returned for a response rate of 60%. It was found that organizational learning culture is significantly and positively related to satisfaction, organizational commitment and job involvement but not with motivation to learn. Age also proved to be an important demographic variable that explained significant part of the variance. Some researchers find that learning intervention can stimulate learning motivation and performance through classroom characteristic. Ironically, research assessing classroom characteristic that can be used as potential learning intervention have received little attention especially among Malaysian undergraduates. Hence, the aim of this study is to determine the mediation effect of motivation to learn on the relationship between classroom characteristic and students ’ grade performance. A number of 173 undergraduate students in a large Malaysian’s public university were taken as sample; data were analysed using SPSS and AMOS. Findings indicated that teaching method, followed by lecturer quality, and classroom management were significantly correlated with students ’ motivation to learn and performance; wherein, motivation to learn fully mediated the relationship between the classroom characteristics and students ’ grade. In studies conducted in the USA, teacher dispositional factors such as enthusiasm, professional esteem and learning motivation often emerge as the most significant variables affecting student learning and achievement from the primary grades through higher education. Do these factors play as significant a role in student learning and achievement in China as they do in the USA? This conceptual paper aims to compare the patterns of teacher dispositions in China with those patterns in the USA. Fourteen experienced teachers and instructors at schools and universities in China and the USA provided oral and written narratives in which they reflected on how teacher attitudes and dispositions affected student learning and achievement.

There are a variety of factors that affect the English language learning process such as motivation and gender. The present study highlights the importance of motivation and gender in the English language learning process. This study follows a mixed-method approach; qualitative and quantitative data were collected and analyzed. Qualitative data were collected through a self-determined motivation questionnaire and a self-assessment chart from fifteen male and fifteen female Saudi students. The participants were all studying English in the United States to continue their university-level education. Data were analyzed co-relationally, using statistics and descriptions, quantitatively. Teaching materials that available in the school to learn physics especially scientific-based is limited and become one of the obstacles to achieving the learning objectives on electromagnetic waves material. The research aims are to gain scientific Physics-based learning modules for high school grade XII students who have met the eligibility criteria, determine the effectiveness of using scientific-based learning modules Physics to improve motivation and learning outcomes from students of grade XII High School. The development of this research on Physics module using 4D development procedure which consists of the steps of define, design, development, and dissemination. Definition phase consists of the teacher and student's needs analysis process, material analysis, as well as the formulation of the learning module. The design phase of physics learning modules according to the stage of scientific learning is integrated into the module. The development phase consists of the development process of the modules from the design results, validating the feasibility, module revision, limited testing, and the use of scientificallybased learning modules Physics in grade XII IPA 1 Batik 2 Surakarta senior high school. The deployment phase is the deployment process module to another Senior High School in Surakarta. Data Analysis for the study is a quantitative descriptive analysis based on the score criteria and analysis of increasing student motivation through N-gain. Conclusion obtained are; 1) Physics-based scientific learning modules that developed meet the eligibility criteria on aspects of content and presentation, language, the chart, and aspects of learning. The module is declared worthy of the ideals validation results with the percentage of 85.16%, 83.66% by students and teachers in the response phase of the deployment of 85.93%, which is included in the category of "very good"; 2) Physics-based scientific learning modules with material scientific electromagnetic waves can increase students' motivation to gain value 0.4 or in the category "medium".
