DESIGN FOR MONUMENT.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 24,216, dated April 16, 1895.

To aZZ whom it may concern.-

Be it known that 1, WILLIAM H. PERRY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Concord, in the county of Merrimac and State of New Hampshire, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Monument, ofwhich the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing.

This design has as its leading features the configuration of the shaft, its ornamental top or cap, its various tablets, and the different character of finish of the several parts, all of which will be fully set forth in the following specification and claim, and clearly illustrated in the drawing accompanying and forming a part of the same, reference being had to the figures and letters, as follows:

The base 1, has four vertical sides which terminate in an obtuse frustum of a pyramid 2, and upon this rests the pedestal 3, which terminates in an acnte frustum of a pyramid 4, upon one or more sides of which may be formed a raised tablet 5. The shaft is provided adjacent to the frustuin of the pedestal with raised tablets 6, having vertical sides, and between said tablets and those shown at 7 (which also have vertical sides), the shaft has tapering sides 8, which are ornamented with tablets 9, distinguishable by a heavy borderline substantially of the configuration shown at 10. The upperedges of the tablets 6, are beveled as at 11. So also are the lower edges of the tablets 7, as seen at 12, and the central portion of the said tablets 7 at their upper edge, rise in the form of a gable 13, the sides of which meet the vertically curved portion 14, extending from the horizontal upper edges 15 of the tablets 7, to the raised tablets 16, located at the base of the four sided dome 17, forming the cap of the shaft, the portion 14, being ornamented by a surface of a different character as seen at- A, and of the configuration shown by border lines 18. The tablets 16 are ornamented on their upper edge by the ornamental projections 19, and the tablets 7, are ornamented on their loweredges as shown at 20.

The ornamentation of my design by surfaces of a difierent character is designated by letters A, B, C; A, representing rock-work; B,

hammered-work, and C, polished Work.

What I claim is The design for a monument substantially as herein shown and described.
