DESIGN FOR A MONUMENT.

SPEGIFIGATION forming part of Design No. 23,228, dated April 24, 1894. Application filed September 30, 1893. Serial No. 486,911. Term of patent 7 years.

To all whom. it may concern.-

Beit known that I, WILLIAM H. PERRY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Concord, in the county of Merrimac and State of 5 New Hampshire, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Monuments, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing.

My design consists in the particular con- J .guration of shaft,itsvariousornamentations,

the pedestal, and the base, as well as the character of the finish of the different parts comprising the new monumental design, which will be clearly pointed out in the following 5 specification and claim, and in the drawing accompanying and forming a part of same.

Reference is made to the drawing by figures and letters.

The base 1. has four vertical sides termio mating in an obtuse frustum of a pyramid 2 at their top. The pedestal 3. has four vertical sides, which terminate at their top in an acute frustum Il, of a pyramid, one or more sides of which may be ornamented by a raised The shaft rises in rectangular form having four tapering portions 6.be1ng ornamented at its bottom with raised tablets 7, their lower edges meeting and resting upon the upper edge of the frustum 4. and

,o their upper edges or a portion thereof, being arched as at 8, and chamfered as at 9,to meet the tapering sides 6, of the shaft. The upper portions of the tapering sides 6. terminate in a fillet 10, joining the projecting tablets 11.

g5 consisting of narrow vertical portions and terminating in the four sided frustum 12, of a pyramid.

Upon the frustum 12 is formed a vertical circular cap 13. terminating in a frusto-conc portion 14, mounting a spherical ornament l5. which Inay be encircled by the raised baud 16. The frustum 14, of acone, maybe ornamented by the depressed tablets 17 .having the raised strips 18, registering with the four corners of the frustum 12.

In the sides of the vertical circular cap 13, by Way of ornamentation are formed depressions 19. of which there may be twelve more or less arranged equidistant from each other.

The taperingportion 6.of the shaft maybe ornamented by tablets 20. and 21. which are flush with the said parts 6. and may be designated by the border lines having the configuration shown at 22, and further distinguishable by a finish of a different character.

The various characters of finish of my new design are also features of the invention and are designated by letters A, denoting rockwork, B. hammered work, and C, polished work.

What I claim is- The design for a monument herein shown and described.
