DESIGN FOR A MONUMENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 24,461, dated July 2, 1895.
Application filed June 7, 1895. Serial No. 552,034. Term ofpatent 7 years- Z'o all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM H. PERRY, a :itizen of the United States, residing at Con- :ord, in-the county of Merrimac and State of New Hampshire, have invented and produced 1, new and original Design for Monuments, of which the following is a specification, refernce being had to the accompanying drawing.
The leading features of my design include :he configuration of the shaft, its ornamental :op or cap piece, and the various styles of inish upon the surfaces of the different parts, is fully set forth in the following specifica- .ion and claim, and clearly illustrated in the lrawing accompanying and forming a part of be same, reference being had to the letters 1nd figures, as follows:
The base 1 has four vertical sides,'terminating at their tops in an obtuse frustum of a pyramid 2, upon which rests the pedestal 8, which terminates in an acute frustum of a pyramid 4, upon one or more sides of which may be formed a raised tablet 5.
The shaft has for the most part tapering sides 6, and is provided at its bottom, adjacent to the frustum of apyramid 4, with raised tablets 7 and at the upper end of the tapering sides with raised tablets 8, the upper edge of the tablets 7 and the lower edge of the'tablets 8 being beveled, as shown, re-
spectively, at 9 and 10. The upper edges of the tablets 7 rise from their corners toward their centers, where they meet an extension made in the form of a segment of a circle 11,
and the lower edges of the tablets 8 are provided with notches orgrooves 12. The tapering sides of the shaft 6 have each a tablet 13, distinguishable by a finish of a different character and by a heavy border-line 14.
The upper edges of the tablets 8 terminate in an acute frustum of a pyramid 15, upon which rests the cap, the vertical sides of which represent depending scallops 16, and the top of which terminates in a four-sided pyramid 17.
I also ornament my design by surfaces of a different character, and in the drawing these are designated as follows: A represents rockwork, B hammered work, and C polished work.
