AU 291 EX DESIGN.
W. H. PERRY.
MONUMENT.
No. 22,372. Patented May 2, 1898.
lnoenmr Wimesses UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
\YILLIAM ll. PERRY, OF CONCORD, NEW HAMPSHIRE.
DESIGN FOR A MONUMENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 22,372, dated May 2, 1893.
Application filed April 3, 1893. Serial No. 46 8,942. Term of patent 7 years.
To aZZ whom it Hwy concern.-
Be it known that I, NILLIAM II. PERRY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Concord, in the county of Merrimae and State of New Hampshire, have invented and produced anew and original Design for Monuments, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad to the accompanying drawing.
My design consists in the configuration of the base, the pedestal, and shaft, the several forms of ornamentation, and the character of the surface of diiferent parts, all of which will be clearly illustrated in an accompanying drawing forming a part of the following specification and claim.
Referring to the drawing by figures and letters of referencethe base 1 has four vertical sides and terminate at their top in an acute frustum of a pyramid as seen at 2. The pedestal 3, has four vertical sides terminating attheir top in an acute frustunil ofa pyramid, upon one or more sides of which may be formed a raised tablet 5. The shaft 6, hasfour vertical sides, and is provided with raised tablets 7and 8 on each of its sides; the tablet 7 being at its bottom and of proper dimension to meet the upper lines of the frustum 4, while the tab lets S, are at the top of the shaft 6, and terminate in a four sided pyramid 9, having arched corners 10, gradually diminishing in height from the corners of said tablets 8, to the apex 11, of said pyramid 9. The adjacent edges of each of the tablets 7 and S, are beveled as at 12, toward the shaft 6. The tablets 7 are grooved as at 13, so as to form the bead 14, which is flush (or nearly so) with the vertical sides of said tablets, while the greater portion of the lower edge of the tablets 8, project downward in the form of an inverted arch 15.
The sides of the shaft 6, are ornamented by tablets 16, which are best designated by ashrface of a character differing from that of the remaining portions of said shaft, and may be distinguished therefrom by a series of border lines 17, having substantially the configuration shown.
The base, pedestal, and shaft, are f nrther ornamented by surfaces of a different character, for instanee, the surfaces marked by the letter A, are termed rockwork, those lettered B, are hammered work, and those marked 0, are polished work.
What I claim is- The design for a monument substantially as shown and described herein.
In testimony whereof I allix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
\V. ll. PERRY.
