SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 18,139, dated March 6, 1888.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, JAMES L. FoLsoM, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York` have invented a new and original Design for Carpets, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying photograph, which forms a part of the same. i

The invention relates to a design to be worked into or upon surfaces, such as carpets or similar fabrics; and it consists in the novel configuration and grouping of figures herein specifically shown and claimed.

The accompanying photograph is a face view l of a carpet showing my new design.

'My design consists of a succession of small leaf and fruit forms with a connecting branch or stem work, the leaf forms being repeated in close proximity over the face of the carpet, asshown. The leafforms resembleoak-leaves 2o in general character and are connected together by short stems in small clusters, these clusters being,r supported on longer stems or branches. From the larger stems or branches project smaller stems or twigs carrying acornshaped z5 forms, either in clusters or singly.

What l claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The design for carpets, consistingof the design substantially as shown.
