UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.

DESIGN FOR AN AQUARiUM AND STAND FOR SAME.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 12,772, dated February 21. 1882,
To all whom it. may concern Be it known that I, (JIrAuLEs i hLErPEu, a citizen of the. United States, residing at Uovington, in the county of Kenton, and the State of Kentucky, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Aquaria and Stands for Same, oi. which the following is a specification, reference being had to the photograph forming part thereof.
My invention relates to aquaria which are to be employed torornumentation within doors; and it consists in general in a peculiar configuration of the stand and the body of the aquarium.
Figure is a perspective view of the aquarium and stand entire, and Fig. 2 represents one of the legs ot' the stand.
There are preferably four legs to the stand, each one of the legs being oi the form shown in Fig. 2. The upper part of each leg is composed of a double column, A, the interspacc beingoccupied by filigree-work. Near the con ter of each leg is a straight bar or rail, (1, and below this the leg is composed ot' a double scroll, I Springi ngfrom the outercdgcot'each leg is a bracket, 0, composed of a straight bar and scroll-work, and at the end ot the bracket is a stand, I), for supporting a llower-pot or other ornament. Theselegs are secured to the under side of slab or top I). Cross-braces (I are attached to the rails a of each leg, cach brace extending from one let, to the one at the opposite corner of the top I), the braces thus crossing each other at their centers. These braces d are bent down, as shown in Fig. 1, and at their point of crossingisplacedastand, d, for supporting an ornament. Around the edge of the top I) is a scalloped border, 0, and upon this top rests the aquarium E, the base E of which is beveled, as shown, and ornamented by suitable engraving. At. each corner of the base is a round column, (l, the tops of said columns being surmounted by a suitable ornament. The upper rails, c, 01' the aquarium unite the top ends of the columns.
While I prefer to employ four legs of the stand, it will be obvious that three or more legs may be employed without materially altering the design of the stand, the principal feature of which design consists in the particular configuration oi each leg, as herein described.
Another feature of the design of the stand consists in the Various brackets for supporting ornaments.
The principal features of the design of the aquarium are the beveled base and the columns surmounted by appropriate ornaments.
Obviously any one or more of the portions of my design (excepting the aquarium proper that is, the fish and flower receptacle) may be advantageously employed, supporting and forming a part ot ornamental tables, jardinieres, and the like, and all such applications will come within the scope of my invention.
The design for the aquarium proper may be. applied to aquaria supported in ways and by means other than I have shown, and will then still come within the scope of my invention.
Having thus described my design, \vhatl claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is as follows:
1.. The hcrein-described design for an aquarium and other stands, consisting of three or more legs, each leg consisting, of an upper part composed of a double column, the interspace being occupied by filigree-work and a lower portion composed of a doublcscroll, the upper and lower portions of the legs being separated by a horizontal rail, the legs being surmounted by an appropriate top or slab, substantially as described.
2. The design for aquarium and otherstaiuls, consisting of three or more legs, substantially as herein described, surmounted by a top or slab, I), the several legs being united by the cross-braces (I, and each leg provided with a bracket for supporting an ornament, substan tially as described.
3. The design for an aquarium and other stands, consisting of three or more legs formed after the pattern herein (l0SCIlbGtl,illG legs being surmounted by a top or slab, 1), having a. scalloped border, 0, and the lowor part of the legs being connected by the cross-braces (1, formed as shown, and having a stand, (1, for Supporting an ornament, substantially as described.
4. The design for aquaria and stands for same and other stands, the stand being, formed after the pattern substantially as herein described, and the aquarium having a beveled base and the round columns (l, each column 1 being surmounted byanappropriute ornament, I substantially as described. 5. The herein-described design 1'01 aquuriu, i consisting of a beveled base, 15, suitably en- 5 gl:l\'0tl,ftl1tl the round columns (l, the tops of which are surmounted by appropriate orna 1o ments and connected by the top rails, 1'', substuntiully as described.
