JOHN F. VOLZ, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO THE W. W. KIMBALL COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR AN ORGAN-CASE.
BPECIPICATION forming part of Design No. 15,596, dated December 2, 1884.
Application filed April 8, i884. Term of patent'l' years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN F. VoLz, a oitizen of the United States, residing in Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois,
have invented a new and original Design for Cabinet-Organ Cases, of which the following is a specification.
Figure 1 is a front View in perspective of my new design. Fig. 2 is an end view of the same.
The main feature of] my design consists in the novel general configuration of the top of the casethat is to say, in the top consisting of three sections-viz., a central section and I 5 two similar end sections, the partitions be tween these sections",as well as the outer ends thereof, being formed of open-work, substantially as herein shown. A second feature re lates also to the configuration of the top, and
consists in the central and two end sections having open-work partitions and ends, the end sections having also horizontal divisions or shelves, substantially as herein shown.
The design also consists, generally,in the case herein shown.
In said illustrations of my design, A A represent the end sections, and A the central section. The open-work partitions and ends referred to consist of the outer m0lding,a a, the
interior spaces within the same being ornamented by round work a a, bars a and rings a, as shown. The shelves in the end sections are designated by c a. The molding a is round at c but angular at other points, and
5 the portion below the shelves is inclined downwardly and outwardly when the top is less in depth than the organ beneath, as in the illustration. The back of the central section is surmounted by two horizontal ornaments, a
and a, one of which has a floral design and the other a pattern of fretwork. The end sec tions above the shelves have for their back a rectangularly-open-spaced design,a. ,atthe top, and another, a at the bottom, with rings in 5 the spaces. and disks a between a and a.
The shelves at their front edges have depending open-work a.
At either side of the music-rack B are panels B B, having a. floral design in carved 5o work,ernbracing flowers, leaves, &c.,as clearly shown.
At the ends of the case, adjoining the panels just described, are small balustrades consisting of a top and front rail, 0, and balusters c, of square or rectangular form. 5
The key-board cover is divided into two end panels, D, and a center panel, D, all being sunken, and the former having sunken rosettes, while the latter has a central raised ornament with a leaf in relief thereon. The front of the key-slip is formed of fretwork E, which may be briefly stated to consist of upper and lower bars intersected and connected at intervals by angling-bars inclined in reverse directions alternately, and rings inserted in the interspaces. Square open work ornaments are placed below the key-slip at either side.
The main feature of the end of the case is the recessed panel F, extending throughout the major part of the vertical dimensions of the end. It is concave in cross-section, and is divided by a longitudinal central groove. and by transverse cuts at short intervals.
The key-board bracket G is ornamented with a fine line of engraved carving, g, the rows of squares g, and the rosette 9 I claim- 1. The design for a cabinet organ case herein shown.
2. In a design for an organ-case, the top composed of two end sections and a central section having open-work partitions and ends, substantially as shown.
3. In a design for an organ-case, the top consisting of one central and two end sections having open-Work partitions and ends, and horizontal divisions or shelves in the end sections, substantially as shown.
4. In a design for an organ-case, a musicrack section consisting of the rack and the panels B, ornamented as shown.
5. In a design for an organ-case, the keyboard section consisting of the cover and keyslip front having the shape and ornameutasion shown.
6. In a design for an organ-case, the end having the ornamentation and shape shown.
