Description

AU 291 EX mzo DESIGN.
J. CAMPBELL.
Carpet.
No. 11,050. Patented Mar, 4,1879.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN CAMPBELL, OF LONDON, ENGLAND, ASSIGNOB TO BIGELOW CARPET COMPANY, OF CLINTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
DESIGN FOR CARPET.
Specification formin g part of Design No. 1 1,050, dated March 4, 1879; application filed January 16, 1879.
[Term of patent 3} years.]
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN CAMPBELL, of London, in the Kingdom of Great Britain, have invented a certain new and original Design for a Carpet, of which the following is a specification This invention relates to a new and original design for carpets, oil-cloths, and similar fabries; and consists of the new configuration and ornamentation of parts, hereinafter more fully pointed out. p
The accompanying photographic illustration represents a face view of my new design. The same is composed substz'mtially of the followingdescribed figures, arranged as shown in the photographic illustration.
An elliptical figure, a, with scalloped out line and ornamented by floral decorations, partly covers an octagonal figure, b, which is likewise embellished with leaves and with interspersed dots, as shown.
0, d, and c are three {Em-shaped figures, which figures 1 consider as forming the most characteristic feature of the design. I have shown the fanshaped figure c to contain part of a square, f, which square is partly covered by the ellipse a. The fan at is near the fan 0, while the fan 0 is at some little distance from the fan (I.
The three fans are richly decorated by floral designs; but it is evident that dili'ercnt ornalnentutions for the fans 0 d 6 may be substituted for those shown.
9 h '5 are three circular figures, made with undulating outlines, and partly overlapping each other, thus forming a group, as shown. These figures are ornamented by floral design. The figure g is also partly covered by the fan 0, the figure h by the fan 0, and the figure i by the ellipse a.
Between the circular figure 1' and the octagonal figure b, andnartly overlapped by the latter, is a rectangular figure, j, embellished by a rich floral ornamentation, and provided with an ornamental border, It, as'shown.
l is a circular figure situated between the figures b and g, and partly overlapped by both. This figure l is, by inner arcs, divided into a series of lentil-shaped figures, within which is a' central starshaped figure, as shown.
m is an irregular figure, with curved outline, separating the fan d from the figures g and l.
A circular figure, n, separates the fan d from the border k of the figure j, and from the circular figure i. The figures m and n are also suitably ornamented.
The background A of the carpet may be embellished by and composed of several smaller geometrical and other designs, as shown.
I claim- 1. The design for a carpet, consisting of the elliptical figure a and the octagonal figure b, the former of which partly overlaps the latter, substantially as shown.
2. The design for a carpet, consisting of the fan-shaped figures c d 0, arranged in relation to each other substantially as shown.
3. The design fora carpet, consisting of the elliptical figure a and fan-shaped figure c, the former of which partly overlaps the latter, substantially as shown.
4: The design for a carpet, consisting of the fan-shaped figure 0, containing part of a square. f, substantially as shown.
5. The design for a carpet, consisting of the circular figures g h i, having undulating outline, of which the figures g and i partly overlap the figure It, substantially as shown.
(i. The design for a carpet, consisting of the circular-figure 1, divided by inner arcs into lentil-shaped figures, and a centralstar, substantially as shown. 7
7. The design for a carpet, consisting of the irregular figure m between the figures g l and the fau-shaped figure d, to form a group, substantially as shown.
8. The design for a carpet, consisting of the rectangular figure j and border It, and of the octagonal figure b, of which the latter figure partly overlaps the figure j, substantially as shown.
9. The design for a carpet, consisting of the fan-shaped figure d, rectangular figure j, havingborder k, circular figure i, and figure a, substantially as shown.
10. The design for a carpet, consisting of the figures a, b, a, d e, f, g, h, i, j, l, m, and a, substantially as s own.
The foregoing description of my invention signed by me this 3d day of December, 1878.
JOHN CAMPBELL.
