CARRIE M. KELLER, OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS.
HAT FOR DOLLS AND OTHER PURPOSES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. id, 11917..
Application filed May 12, 1916. Serial No. 96,961.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, CARRIE M. KELLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fort Worth, in the county of Tarrant and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hats for Dolls and other Purposes, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to hats and more particularly to toy hats for dolls; and the object is to provide at small cost hats for dolls and for amusement and which can be used to carry candy for entertainments for children and which can be made of material which is cheap and which can be made as ornamental as desirable. Other objects and advantages will be fully explained in the following description and the invention will be more particularly pointed out in the claim.
Reference is had to the accompanying drawings which form a part of this application.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the hat.
Fig. 2 is a vertical section. Fig. 3' is a plan view of the principal part of the brim.
Similar characters of reference are used to indicate the same parts throughout the several views.
The hat is formed on a brim 5 of paste board which must be of such make or consistency that it will be flexible and which will remain in any form to which it is pressed or bent. The brim 5 is reinforced by a covering 2 of suitable crepe paper,
which is coextensive with the brim and secured thereto by paste. The brim 5 1s further reinforced and covered on the outside -poses set forth and by a sheet of crepe paper 3 which is attached thereto by'paste and the cover 3 has a flange lwhich is bent under the outer edge of the brim 5 and lining 2 and secured thereto by paste, the three parts 2, 3, and
5 all beingpressed together. The lining 2 is secured to the part 5 by a relatively thin paste and the cover 3 is secured to the part 5 and to the part 2 by a relatively thick paste. The crown l is formed of crepe paper and attached to the brim 5 by suitable paste or glue and the crown terminates with a flange 6 which is pasted to the lining 2. A feather 7, or as many feathers as may be desirable, is attached to the crown 1 and to the cover 3 by glue.
The hat so constructed makes an article of manufacture highly efficient for the purthe hats are easily and quickly made. The brim 5 constitutes a frame for the hat and maintains the hat in any position desired. Various changes in the construction, sizes, and proportions of the several parts may be madewithout departing from my invention.
hat I claim, is,
As a new article of manufacture, a hat composed of a brim constituting a frame for the hat, a lining for said brim, a covering for said brim attached thereto and having a flange turned over the outer edge thereof and attached to said lining, and a crown secured to said brim and having a flange bent under said lining and attached thereto.
In testimony whereof, I set my hand, this 8th day of May, 1916.
CARRIE M. KELLER.
