DESIGN FOR SPOON AND FORK HANDLES.

Specification forming part of Design No. 10,536, dated March 12, 1878; application filed February 13, 1878. [Term of patent 31} years] To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLES F. RICIIERS, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Design for Spoon and Fork Handles, of which the following is a specification:

Figure 1 is afront view of a spoon illustrating my design. Fig. 2 is arear viewed the same. Fig. 3 is a cross section taken through the line a: m of Fig. 1.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.

The ob ect of this invention is to furnish, and consists in, a new design for spoon and fork handles, called by me the Angelo, and which is formed as hereinafter fully described.

At the base of the handle its side edges are concaved, the upper ends of the said concave terminating in sharp shoulders or angles A. From the shoulders A the side edges pass up nearly parallel, and then curve outward with a gentle curve until near the end, where they turn outward with a sharp curve, forming angles B. From the angles B the edges curve inward and meet at an angle, 0. The outer end of the handle is thickened toward the angle 0, and is curved forward. The body of r the forward side of the spoon-handle in sunken, leaving a raised edge or border.

The wider part of the sunken portion of the front of the handle is slightly convexed, and upon it is shown a basket, D, filled with fruit E, from which rise flower and leaf stems F.

The base or foot of the basket is represented as being formed of rays G, and from said base or foot projects an ornamental scrollwork, N, from the lower scrolls of which are suspended two strings of beads, l, the middle parts of which hang beneath the base or foot of the basket. Beneath the beads I is an ornamental work of leaves, stems, and scrolls, J, along the sides of which are formed two beads, K, the upper ends of which are curved outward and their lower ends are curved inward. From the lower ends of these beads K to the base of the handle extends a line, L, of rays, scrolls, and tassels. At the base of the handle the side edges or beads are represented as being curved inward and terminating in low projections. Upon the front of the border of the handle, between the angles B C, are formed slightly-curved grooved beads M. The surface of the sunken part of the front of the handle, except the space occupied by the ornaments, is stippled. Upon the back of the handle the lower narrower part is concaved, and the upper wider part is slightly converted, and the concaved and convexed parts are surrounded with a bead, N.

In the lower narrower part of the convexed upper part of the handle is formed a stem, 0, of leaves and scrolls, rising from the inwardlyeurved lower ends of two side beads, P, the upper ends of which are curved outward.

Upon the upper part of the handle, between the angle B 0, are formed curved beads Q, which are grooved longitudinally, and at the angle 0 is formed a scroll-work, R.

Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A design for a spoon or fork handle in which the side edges are concaved at the base, forming sharp shoulders or angles A, extend nearly parallel, curve outward slightly, and near the outer end curve outward with a sharp curve, forming angles B, and theninward un til they meet at an angle, 0, which angle is made thicker and is bent forward, substantially as herein shown and described.

2. A design for the front of a spoon or fork handle, in which the middle part is sunken, with its wider part slightly convexed, and which is ornamented with the basket 1), the fruit E, the stems F, the rays and scroll-work G H, the heads I, the leaves, stems, and scrolls J, the line of ra s, scrolls and tassels L, and the beads K an M, in suhstantially the same manner herein shown and described.

3. A design for the back of the spoon or fork handle, in which the lower middle part is concaved, and the upper middle part is slightly convexed, and which is further ornamented with the stem of leaves and scrolls O, the beads N, P, and Q, and the scroll-work R,

substantially as herein shown and described.
