I UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
"SAMUEL BOROHARDT, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOR A SOLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No, 30,352, dated March 14, 1899. Application filed April 13, 1896. Serial No. 587,4:; Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL BOROHARDT, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, county of New York, and State of New York, have invented a certain new and original Design for Soles, fully described and represented in the following specification and the accompanying drawings, forming a part of the same.
This invention relates to a design for soles adapted to receive knitted uppers, soles of this character usually consisting of three superposed sections secured together by a row of stitching passing through the same near the edge of the sole and which is exposed on the under surface of the lowermost section.
The present design consists, essentially, in a sole of this character from which this row of stitching is omit-ted and in which the lowermost section is provided with a marginal portion which is turned over the other two sections, so as to'conceal the edges of the same and produce the appearance of an apparently thick sole of one material, and which overturned portion is provided upon its upper face with an ornamental border of cord near the edge of the sole and inclosing the body or upwardly-proj ectin g portion of the uppermost section thereof.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a sole embodying the present design, and Fig. 2 is a cross-section of the same.
In said drawings, A B C represent, respectively, the lowermost, intermediate, and uppermost sections of the sole. The lowermost section A is, as shown, made wider .than the other two sections B C, so as to provide a marginal portion a, which is bent upwardly around said sections 13 O and inwardly against the upwardly-proj ecting portion of the uppermost section C. This overturned edge is provided with a surface ornamentation consist ing, as shown, of a cord 0 inside the extreme edge of the sole and inclosing the upwardlyprojecting portion of the uppermost sec tion 0.
\Vhat I claim is The design for a sole substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have vhereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing Y witnesses.
SAMUEL BORCl-IARDT.
