WILLIAM M. SMITH, OF WEST MERIDEN, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO THE MERIDEN BRITANNIA COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A FUNEREAL'ORNAMENT.
Specification forming part of Design No. 10,078, dated June 26, 1877; application filed May 18, 1877. [Term of Patent 14 years] To all whom it may concern I Be it known that 1, WILLIAM M. SMITH, of West Meriden, in the county ofNew Haven and State of Gonnecticut, have invented a new Design for Funeral Ornament; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and representa face view.
This invention relates to a design for an ornament with special reference to funeral decorations-that is to say, an ornament which may be attached to a casket, or to flowers, or other parts of funeral decorations, and for analogous purposes; and it consists in the form and ornamentation of a shield, as shown in the accompanying illustration, and hereinafter described.
The principal feature of the design, and which forms the base of it, is a shield surmounted by a crown, as shown in the accompanying illustration.
On the face of this is a band, on which an appropriate motto is placed. The band is here represented as aribbon, the ends of which project at the sides of the shield, and form a side ornament, but the shield and crown may be used without this representation of a ribbon, the words being represented as directly upon the surface of the shield.
The surface of the shield is ornamented with a border. The space within the border may be ornamented with any suitable or appropriate ornamentation.
The crown may be dispensed with and the ornament consist ofthe shield and ribbon only.
I claim 1. The herein-described design for funereal ornament, consisting of the shield surmounted by a crown, as shown in the accompanying illustration.
2. The design for fun ereal ornament consisting of a shield, with the representation of a ribbon across its face, as shown in the accompanying illustration.
3. The herein-described design for funereal ornament, consisting of a shield surmounted by a crown, and with a ribbon on the face oi the shield, as shown in the accompanying illustration.
