Description
PATENTED JAN. 21, 1908.
M M w m WITNESSES Attorney Chicago, in the county nan THEODORE LGANT'A, OF GHICAGQ, ELLINOIS.
UNDERSHIRT.
Specification of Letters Patent. I
,Eatented Jan. 21, 1908.
7 Application filed September 2%. 1907. Serial-No. 394.286.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THEODORE FANTA, of of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and. useful Improvements in Undershirts; and I dohereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will. enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to undershirts for infants, the object being tic-provide a shirt havinga double lap in front, with improved means for securing the free'ends' of the two laps to the body of the shirt thereby providing a close fit and preventing the lower end from working up on the abdomen.
A further object is to dispense. altogether with pins and buttons and provide. securing means which will permit the shirt to be adjusted to the body of the wearer, and amply protect the chest and aliidornen.
"With these objects in view my invention consists in the details of construction .as will be more fully described and pointed out in.
the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 1s a view of the shirt open.
with the inner liap closed and. secured, and F g. 3 is a view showing the outer flap cioeed. 1- represents the back or body of the shirt,
provided with the usual neck band andsleeves, and 2 and 3 are the inner anal outer flaps respectively, bothforined integrai with the body 1. The inner flap constitutes the inner front of the shirt, and is of a width sufficient to cover the front of the body and is provided at its free edge with the tape 4- stitched to the front edge of the flap, at about the median line of the abdomen, the two ends 5 of the tape being turned at right angles and of sufficient length to pass through the holes 6 in the body and. be tied together outside the shirt. The section of the shirt having holes 6 therein is on line with the under side of the right sleeve and is reinforced by the tape 7' stitched to the inner face of the body and projecting beyond the, holes.
The outer flap 3 is adapted .to fold over thus providing double thickness of materialover the chest and abdomen. and is provided on the inner Fig. 2 is a view surface of its free edge with a tape 7 stitched thereto, the ends of the tape being free. The body of the shirt is also provided on a line underthe left sleeve with a tape 8 stitched to the' outer surface of the body, the said tape 8 having two free ends which when the outer flap is folded over the inner flap, conform in position to the free ends of tape 7 a to which they are tied. The upper and lower ends of the two tapes 7 and 8 are so located as to come respectively above and below the abdomen, thus permitting the shirt to closely fit the body without undue pressure on the abdomen, the lower ends of the two tapes, also operating to prevent the shirt from *creeping up on the abdomen.
By reinforcing all that part of the shirt and. flaps between the free ends of the tapes or braids, I take the strain from the shirt proper, hence the tendency to tear at the points subjected to strain is largely overcome.
With this construction I dispense entirely with buttons and pins and provide a shirt which can be put on like a coat and'so se cured and held in place, as to fuliy-protect the body of the wearer.
Having fuliy described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is,-v
1. As a new article of manufacture, a shirt comprising a back or body and two flaps, the inner flap being provided at its free end with a reinforcing tape having free ends adapted to be passed through holesin the body of the shirt and means for securing the free edge of the outer flap to the body.
2; As a new article of manufacture, a shirt comprising a back or body and two flaps, the inner flap being provided at its free ed ge with a reinforcing tape having free ends adapted to be passed through holes in the shirt, and the outer flap provided at its free edge with a reinforcing tape having free ends adapted to be secured to the free ends of a reinforcing tape secured to the body of the shirt.
In testimony whereof, I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscrib- Anne MEYER, J. W. FRAMBERG.
