FOOT-PROTECTOR.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 253,402, dated February '7, 1882. I Application filed October 12,1ss1. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern:

'Be it known that I, HERBERT W. MARTIN,

of Bennington, in the county of Bennington and State of Vermont, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Foot-Protectors; and I do hereby delare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art. to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is a side view of my improved footprotector, and Fig. 2 is a cross-section through the top part of the same.

Similar letters of reference indicate correspending parts in both the figutes.

My invention contemplates an improvement in foot-warmers or foot-protectors, as herein after more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.

In the annexed drawings, A represents the body of my improved foot-protector, which is by preference made of sheepskin with the wool on. Around the rim or on the outside, flush with the top edge of the same, is stitched a band of textile gathered fabric, B, and next to this again is stitched another piece of textile fabric, 0, which is doubled around or over the top edge, a, and stitched to the inside of the rim, its lower edge being doubled around the inner bottom edge of the band B to form a ribbed seam or welt, b. The band B on the outside is doubled around the lower edge of band C to form a pouch or bag around the outside of the top rim of the protector for the insertion of an elastic web, D. Thus it will be together and to the material A by the scam I).

This makes a re-enforced top rim of the protector, prevents undue wear or chafing of the elastic web in putting the protector on or off, prevents (by the ribbed seam or welt b) ripping of the band B from the inside of the top, and forms a convenient means for contracting the top of the protector so as to retain it in its proper position upon the leg, theinelastic bands B and 0 being gathered to permit of the expansion of the elastic web D.

Having thus described my improvement, what I claim, and desire to secure byLetters Patent of the United States, isp A foot-protector having an elastic opening made up of the parts A B C, and an elastic, D, all arranged and connected as shown and described.
