UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ISAAC SCHNEER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
SHIRT-BOSOM.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters PatentNo. 254,705, dated March '7, 1882.
' Application iled December 20, 1881. (No model.)
To all whom fit may concern:
Be it known that 1, lsAAc SGHNEER, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shirt-Bosoms, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to dispenseY 4with binding-strips in the attachment of bosoms to the bodyof the shirt, and to strengthen the shirt on such line ot' attachment.
The invention consists in an interlocked counection, as hereinafter described and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a front view of a shirt with the bosom attached in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the bosom and. shirt-front and Fig. 3 is a cross-section, showing the connected edges in larger size.
A is the bosom, and B the shirt-body formed with an opening for the bosom, as usual. The bosom, as shown, consists of a facing, a, lining b, and backing o, and there may be four or more thicknesses, as desired. The bosom is stitched near the edges with a row of stitches,
l, which retains the portions a, b, aud-c in place. The backing c is cut not as wide as the face and lining, with the object to allow folding of the two latter back behind a forward fold, r1, in the edges of the shirt-body, to which the backing is directly attached by a line, 2, of stitching. The attachment is made by placing the piece c upon the back of the material at the opening, and edge to edge therewith, and connecting them by the lines of stitches 2. This leaves the shirt-body with the forward fold, d, into which the face a andlining b are then folded, and the innterulmockedfolds are then all secured by a line, 3, off""s"`titching placed a short distance from'the 'edge of the bosom. The line 2 of stitching does not appear on the face of the bosom. By this method of securing the bosom it is firmly held, and is not liable to tear away from the shirt-body. There are no edges upon the bosom to interfere with the ironing, as the bosom laps upon the body.
I am aware that itis not new to connect the edges ot' the bosom and shirt by interlocking folds; but
What I claim as new and of my invention 1s- Ihe combination, with a shirt having a forward fold, d, of a three-part bosom having a back, o, projected beyond the parts a b, passed around the fold d, and secured to it by stitches 2, the parts b c being embraced within said fold, and all the parts bound together by the stitches 3, as shown and described.
ISAAC SGHNEER.
