Description
E. PELTZP SCARF.
Patented July 24,1877.
DAM/2 5m I immmo'n UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICE.
EMIL PELTZ, OF ASTORIA, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN SCARFS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 193,546, dated July 24, 1877; application filed June 29, 1877.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EMIL PELTZ, of Astoria, in the county of Queens and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Scarfs, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification, reference being bad to the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 represents a front view of my scarf before the heading is folded together. Fig. 2 is a rear view thereof, showing the heading partly folded. Fig. 3 is a vertical section of the same in a finished state. Fig. 4 is a transverse section thereof.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.
My improvement relates especially to that class of scarfs' composed of a heading and one or two ends which are confined in the heading.
It consists in a heading which is provided with an, internal flap adapted to support the end or ends of the scarf, and which serves to form an unobstructed passage for the band by which the scarf is affixed to the neck of the wearer, as hereinafter fully set forth.
In the drawing, the letterA designates my heading, composed of a piece of pasteboard or other suitable material, covered and cut out to the proper shape, and B designates the ends of my scarf.
On one of the edges of the blank composing the heading A I form a flap, 0, which is cut out in one piece with said blank, and of a shape corresponding to the shape of the heading after it is folded together, the length of the flap, however, being less than that of the heading. 7
The ends B of the scarf are fastened to the way, a pin being used in some cases, in order that the heading'and the ends of the scarf may be readily detached from each other.
After the ends B have been fastened, the flap O is folded along the line d to the position shown in Fig. 2-that is to say, within the heading Asaid ends B being fastened to such a part of the flap O that they are brought between it and the front part of the heading, when the flap is folded. After the flap O has been adjusted in the desired position the heading A is folded near its opposite edges along the linesf f, and fastened together at the edges in any suitable way.
* It will be seen that the flap 0 forms a very convenient means for supporting the end B of the scarf, and when said ends are fastened in the manner shown an unobstructed passage, D, (see Figs. 3 and 4,) is formed between the flap G and the rear part of the heading A, through which the band by which the scarf is commonly affixed to the neck of the wearer can be conveniently drawn, and in which it can be fastened by any suitable means.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The heading A, constructed with side flaps and a flap, O, for supporting the scarf end, and adapted to be folded downward on the lined, and the side flaps folded inward on the lines f, and fastened, substantially as and for the purpose described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 27th day of June, 1877.
