SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 774,584, dated November 8, 1904. Application filed July 22, 1904. Serial No. 217,632, (No model.)
To all 1072,0777, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HERMAN HARMS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Money-Pouches; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. i I
My invention relates to a novel construction in a pouch particularly adapted for receiving money, the object being to provide a pouch which will safely retain small coins in large numbers and which is neat in appear ance and strong and durable and cheap to manufacture; and it consists in the features of is essential that the locking means be so dis posed that the weight of the coins when the pouch is inverted will not release the lock, and thus enable such coins to escape. It is further desirable that the same be otherwise,
strong, durable, and very pliable and very readily manufactured.
To these and other ends my said pouch A consists of a single piece of leather cut substantially circular in form in the ordinary manner and plaited on two diametrically opposite edges, there being two openings through each plait, which when said pouch is closed and plaited together are flush with each other and permit the passage therethrough of the cords B, by means of which said pouch is closed. The plaiting of said pouch and the passage of thecords therethrough' is a common expedient, and this forms no part of my invention.
My invention consists more particularly in providing at two diametrically opposite points between the plaited edges of the blank two ears or projections C and D of such length that the same may be folded, and thus made double and secured in such folded position by means of gromet E, which passes through ,the body of the blank and through the free ends of said ears or projections-C and D. In the free ends of the plaited portions of said ears C and D, I secure the male and female members, respectively, of a glove-fastener F, the latter being so disposed that the flap D, carrying the female'member of said fastener F, must overlap the member C, which carries the male member, the latter resting upon the upper edge of the pouch when closed and said ears or projections O and D being relatively of such length that when locked together they serve to retain said pouch in its closed position independently of the cords B, so that the accidental opening thereof is rendered absolutely impossible.
It is an essential feature of my invention that the ears or projections C and D shall overlap each other and be so fastened that any strains exerted by the contents of the pouch will exert longitudinal strain on said ears or projections, which the same are amply able to resist, so that the opening of the pouch by said strains is entirely obviated. a
The gromets E are so disposed relatively to the openings through which the cords pass as to lie between the two pairs of outermost openings, so that the middle portions of the cords B pass over said gromets and exert strains thereon, thus serving to stiffen the end walls to protect same from being laterally contracted by the action of said cords and providing a smooth surface which prevents wear on said cords.
My said invention further consists in providing at one side of said pouch a special pocket Gr for the reception of gold coins, which it is usually desirable to keep separate from the small change, and in providing the simple means for locking said pocket, said means consisting in so extending the free end portion of the ear or projection C that the same overlaps the mouth of said pocket and carries the female member of a glove-fastener, which is adapted to receive the male member mounted on the inner wall of said pocket, and thus securely lock the latter.
My said pouch is very neat, simple, and efficient.
I claim 1. Amoney-pouch, made of ablank substantially circular in form and plaited upon opposite sides of two diametrically opposite points, said plaited portions and the intermediate portions being perforated for the reception of draw-strings, said intermediate portions being extended substantially radially and providing two ears or extensions one of which carries the male member of a fastener and is adapted to rest upon the closed end of the pouch, and the other of which carries the female member of the fastener and overlaps the first-named ear or extension to lock said pouch.
2. Amoney-pouch, made ofablanksubstantially circular in form and plaited upon opposite sides of two diametrically opposite points, said plaited portions and the intermediate portions being perforated for the reception of draw-strings, said intermediate portions being extended substantially radially and providing two ears or extensions which are folded between their ends, the free ends of said extensions being of greater length than the inner ends and overlapping the intermediate portions of the pouch, and being secured thereto, one of said folded ears or extensions carrying the male member of a fastener and resting upon the edges of the plaits when the pouch is closed and the other of said. ears or 1 extensions carrying the female member of the fastener and overlapping the other ear or extension to lock said pouch.
3. A inoney-poucli,made of a blank substantially circular in form and plaited upon opposite sides of two diametrically opposite points, said plaited portions and the intermediate portions being perforated for the reception of draw-strings, said intermediate portions being extended substantially radially and providing two cars or extensions which are folded between their ends, the free ends of said extensions being of greater length than the inner ends and overlapping the intermediate portions of the pouch and being secured thereto, one of said free ends of said ears or extensions being of greater length than the other and forming a flap overlapping a pocket secured to one of said intermediate portions of said pouch and carrying one member of a fastener, the other member of which is carried by said pocket to lock the latter, one of said folded ears or extensions carrying the male member of a fastener and resting upon the edges of the plaits when the pouch is closed, and the other of said ears or extensions carrying the female member of the fastener and overlapping the other ear or extension to lock said pouch.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
HERMAN HARMS.
