KEY-RING. u
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 6, 1906.
Application iiled May 15,1905. Serial No. 260,492.
To all whom, it 71cm/ concern,.-
Be it known that I, JOS CALVO, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented certain .new and useful Improvements in Key-Rings and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in key-rings and similar devices.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple, inexpensive, and efficient binding device of this character having a marking or identifying-tag which will show the name and address of the owner of the object or article to which the device is attached.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a plan view of the device in its closed or locked position. Fig. 2 is a similar view in its open position, and Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view through the marker or indicating-tag in its closed position.
Referring to the drawings by numeral, l denotes a key-ring or other binding device comprising a chain or similar flexible connection 2 and marker or indicating-tag 3. The latter comprises a body 4 of any desired form or shape having at one side an apertured lug 5 and at its opposite side a hook 6. The body portion 4 may be flat or formed with a depression, as desired, and is adapted to contain the name and address of the owner and any other information, which may be stamped, printed, or applied in any suitable or preferred manner. The body I is adapted to be closed by a cover 7, which. is pivoted by a tubular rivet S to the apertured lug 5 and which is adapted to be swung into and out of engagement with the hook 6 to open and close the mouth of the same. One end of the chain or ring l is engaged with the tubular rivet S, and its opposite end is adapted to be retained in the hook 6 by a projecting portion 9 upon the cover 7, as clearly shown in Figs. l and 3 of the drawings.
The construction, use, and advantages of the invention will be readily understood from the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings. It will be seen that it may be used as a key-ring, an umbrella-fastener, and for various other purposes.
Various changesin the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention. f
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Let- The herein described key ring and tag comprising a depressed plate having an integral hook on one side thereof and a perforated lug on the other side opposite the hook, a cover for said plate having a perforated lug on one side thereof, and a projection to close the hook on the opposite side thereof, said perforated lugs being connected by an eyelet, a chain connected to said eyelet, said lug on the cover being adapted to be swung upon the eyelet as a pivot to close the hook on the depressed plate, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
JOS CALVO.
