NITED STATES ATENT i FFICE.
STEPHEN B. SMITH, OF BELLEVILLE, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO ERNEST F. HILGARD, OF SAME PLACE.
PARCEL-CARR! ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 473,433, dated April 19, 1892.
Application filed August 18, 1891. Serial No. 402,966. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
- parcels, &c., the same embodying a strip of paper or other suitable material, a cord connected therewith, a handle on said cord, and spurs on the strip for engagement with the article carried, whereby displacement or slipping of the same is prevented.
Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a carrier embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a perspective view of a portion of a modification thereof.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the two figures.
Referring to the drawings, A designates a strip of flexible material, in the ends whereof are openings 13 for attachment of a cord 0, in lieu of which a piece of wire, tape, 650., may be employed. On the cord is a handle or grip O for carrying purposes.
D designates prongs or spurs, which are connected with the strip A and project inwardly therefrom, said spurs being either attached to the strip, as in Fig. 1, or forming an integral part of the same, as in Fig. 2, when the strip is made of metal or material from which the spurs may be punched up. In Fig. 1 said spurs are formed of metal, and the strip of paper, card-board, &c., with loops E thereon through which the spurs are passed, so as to When the cord is released the article may be removed, the device being capable of further service. The strip being flat may have advertisements or other information printed or otherwise marked thereon, and forms, with the string and handle, a cheap, substantial,
and light carrier for the purpose intended.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A carrier consisting of a strip of flexible material having spurs projecting inwardly therefrom, and a cord fastened at one end to one end of said strip and passing loosely through an opening in the other end of the said strip, said parts being combined substantially as described.
2. A carrier having a flexible strip of suitable material with loops thereon, spurs fitting in said loops and projecting from said strip, and a carrying-cord connected with said strip, said parts being combined substantially as described.
STEPHEN B. SMITH.
