De it known that I, THOMAS B. WcKHAM, of Granville, county of Licking, and State ofvOhio, have invented a new and useful .improvement in a Portable Fence; and I do hereby declare that the following is afull, clear, and exact description of theconstruction of the same, reference being had-to the annexed drawings, i making:r a part of this specitication, in whichl Figure 1 is a perspective View of the fence in position. v

Figure 2 is the double brace, whichA binds the sections, by firmly clamping first and second boards at top, and also forming a substantial brace on either side, which are fastened to stakes rmly driven in the groilnif Figure 3 is the-combination-lock, which, being fastened atthe bottom of the braces, and compressing them. so as to firmly secure the fence at the top, also firmly holds the sections at the bottom; v

The nature of my invention consists in .constructing each section and brace so 1-s to form a combination-` lock and double brace. -v i p To enable others to make and use my invention,` I proceed to describe itscenstruc'tien and operation.

vI construct each section of such number andwidth of boards as to form a` desirable height, with a. projection of three or four inches at each end, so as to form a lap at the joint ofthe' sections. Thedouble brace, marked D B, with notches at top, marked e e, forms a double slotand clamp, markedff, for the first and secondA boards at top. '.lhe foot of cach brace is attached, by any convenient fastening, tio stakes marked D D, so as to secure permanence to each panel, in combination with lool; marked C C, (with a slot in thecentre, markedg which extends and is attached to the foot of each brace, and so.compresses them as to firmly secure the f ence at top and bottom. f

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Let-ters Patent, is

lhe manner of locking and supporting the panels by the double brace and clamp B B, in combination ivith the Vstakes D D and lock C C, all substantially arranged as set forth in the foregoing specifications'. i
