Description
@@/gfawm 5mm-f @met @t l IMPROVEMENT IN FENCE.
-The Schedule referred to in these Letters APatent and making part of the same.
To all whom it ma/y concern,-
Be it known that I, MnLvIN J. GASKILL, of Pleasant Plain, in the State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Fence; and I do hereby declare the following to be an exactrdes'cription thereo'f, reference being had to the annexed drawings, forming part of this specification.
Figure 1 is a combined'. section of fence.
Figure 2 is a detached brace or trestle.
Figure 3 is a key.
.In the construction of my fence-panel, the rails A A' A, lig. 1, are held together in the usual manner by battens B B, iig. 1, nailed across the rails, near their ends. These battens may be single or in pairs, to suit convenience'.
Two rails in each panel are supporting-rails, A' A', iig. 1, and have dovetail notches cut in their under edges, between the battens and the ends of the sup portinga'ails above described, a a, iig. l. l
In connecting and supporting the several panels of a fence, I construct and join in pairs, triangular rafterbraces, C C, figs. 1 and .2,'closed together' at the top, and firmly held in theirplaces by cleats D D, iigs. l and 2, narranged at appropriate distances from the bottom and top 0f the braces for the reception of the supporting-rails.
These cleats are provided with a tongue, b b, iig. 2, in their centres, to fit the dovetail notch in the ends 0f the supporting-rails above described, a a, iig. 1.
The braces have a throat also cut out of their under edges, where they join together at the top, C, g. 2, for the reception of the key E, figs. 1 and 3.
After the panels have been inserted in `their places in the braces, the key E is driven through the braces over the supporting-rails, filling the entire space between the upper cleat and the junction of the braces,
Witnesses WM. YosT, M. VANDERVORT.
