IMPROVEMENT IN PORTABLE FENCE. i

The Schedule 'referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ELI Hnmgof Hartford, in the county of Vigo and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful'Impi-ovements in Portable Fences; and I do hereby declare t-hat the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and tothe letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of t-his'specification.

The nature -of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a portable fence, as will be hereinafter fully set forth.

In order to enableothers skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, ref'errngv to the annexed drawings, in which A Figure'l is a front view, showing two panels fast ened together;

Figure 2 is a plan view of'. the same;

Figure 3 is a velticai section through the corner; and

Figure 4 is a plan view ofthe brace.

Each panel ot' my fence is composed of horizontal planks or boards A A,'con nected by means of slats B B, nailed on each side thereof at the ends, and by slats G C, secured at suitable distance apart on the outer side of the panel.

The two panels are then placed together at a suitable angle, and braces D D, notched as shown in fig. 4, are inserted, connecting the panels ou the inner side, the notches made in said braces fitting on the slats C C.

Through the corner of the'fence thus formed are passed'. two keys, E E, out out as shown in fig.o 3, so as to catch on the inner side ofthe braces D, holding them down onto the edges of the boards upon which they rest, wedges .G being inserted above the keys E, to hold them in place.

These keys are held on the outside or front of the fence by small notched pieces a a.

'lhc braces D, instead of resting upon the upper edges of the horizontal boards, 'may be held against their lower edges, or one each way, as represented in the dra-wings.

AH H represent base-boards, upon which the fence rests, and

I is a cap to preserve the corners. i
