Description
LOU'S'W, BOSART, OF ST.. MAR'E, lLLINOIS.
Letters Patent No. 78,783, dated Jima 9, 1868.
IMPROVEMENT IN PORTABLE FENCE.
itin Stigrhrlr nient in initie' t-stints zrtrut mn netting ont nf it? sume.
TO ALL WHOM iT MAY CONCERN: i
Be it known that I, LOUIS BOSART, of St. Marie, in the county of Jasper, and State of Illinois, have invented a new und Auseful Improvement in a Portable Fence; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full,'elear, and enact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making vpart of this specication', in which- Figure l is 'a side elevation.
Figure Zis un elevation of a trestle.
Figure 3, an elevation of another trestle,'rand Figure a horizontal'section of a corner. l
The same letters in all the figures indicate the saine parts.
In the annexed drawings, A A are the panels, the former being `the form used for the continuous line of fence, and the latter constructed for the purpose of forming a corner. The panels are composed of a series of horizontal boards, t a., connected .at the ends by two parallel and vertical' cleats, al al, nailed on the boards a. The corner pztneL-A, has the two vertical cleats e? a2 nailed to the boards, not opposite to ono another, but with a space between them to receive the endsot` the pieces B, which are fastenedrto the end et' the next panel between them, when the said panel is set at an angle to the panel A. These pieces B are secured between the cleats al al ou one end of each'panel, and are used for the purposerof being inserted lbetween the cleats of' the adjoining panel, where they are secured by a pin, thus holding the panels together.
The fence is sustained upon trestles, e, which are triangular frames, having n. notch c utin the sill-piece to receive the lower pecc',B, and hold 4the panel from slipping sidewztys, the upper -one being confined in the upper angle. The sides of the trestle are extended below the vsill-piece at c c', for the purpose of being inserted into the ground to hold thetrestle from moving, and give-increased rmness to the fence.
D is the gate-.post, Vwhich may be attached at the end of any panel. The vertical post D has fastened to it the projecting horizontal pieces d, which may be `passed between the parallel end-pieces al e of the panel, and secured by pins. The gute is hung on hinges to this post the ordinary manner.
I have shown in fig. 3 another form of tres'tle, with slots, eff', in a vertical piece, to receive the connectingpieces B. rlhis is also secured by the projection c inserted in the ground.A
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. n combination with the panels, the gate-posts D, constructed and arrhnged substantially as and for the purpose set-forth.
2. 'lhe trestles 0,' with slots and notches c, and projections e', in combination with the panels A and A',
substantially as described.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my naine to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
' L. W. BOSART.
