TO ALL WHOM I'l MAY CONOERN:
Be it known that I, H. L. ISHAM, of Plnttsbnrg, in the county of Clinton, and in the 'State of New York,
have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bed-Bottoms; and do hereby declare that the following is a` full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the annexed drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this speciication.
In the accompanying drawings, A represents the bedstend, within which is set the bed-bottom. This bed bottom is composed of series of horizontal slats CC C, which are connected to cross-pieoes B B :it euch end. Upon the under sides of the cross-pieeesAB B is a series of metallic loops, c, which encircle rubber bands a a.. Each end ot' the slats C is provided with two narrow slots :c x, (see fig. 4,) which open in the end of the saiil slats, and into which are passed the hands a a. All of the slats being thus attached to a Vcorresponding number of bands, a. leather holt, D, is wound over and under every slat at euch end of the hed, thus securingthem in place, and preventing them from becoming too close to each other or too far off. A bed-bottom thus formed will be found elastic anddurnble, and can be readily adjusted.
Having thus fullyvdescribed my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- The combination' of the slats C C with narrow slots at each end for securing the bands a a that connect the -slavts to Ythe cross-pieces B, and additionally connecting the slats, one with the other, by the belts D D,
whereby vthe slats are prevented from turning, as herein specicd.
