IMPROVED BED-BOTTOM.

TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

Be it known that I, J. I. MABBETT, of Titusville, in the county of Crawford, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Bed-Bottoms; and Ido hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification, in which- Figui-e1 is a side elevation, and

The nature of my invention consists in the employment of split or double slats. Said slats being connected at their' lower ends, gradually separate towards the head of the bed, with head and foot-blocks secured to the lower slat, in order to keep them in an open position.

a a represent the top and b b the bottoni slats, which are secured at their lower ends to cross-piece e. d is also a cross-piece, to which the lowerslats b b are secured. g and L represent.wedge-shaped blocks. It will be remarked that the head-blocks y are higher than the foot-blocks z, and also that the apex of g is upward, while that of z is reversed, as seen in fig. 1. The frame thus formed by the slats a b and cross-pieces c d, is attached to the bed-posts by means of India-rubber springs or rings z'z'-, as fully indicated in the drawings.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I e1aim,and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The slats a b, open at one end and connected at'the other, combined with cross-pieces c d, blocks q 7L, and rubber springs i z', connecting the bottom with the 'bcdstead, when all are arranged as set forth and described.
