--To ALL WHOM 'IT MAY GONCERN:
Beit knov'vn that we, WILLIMSTENGER and ALoIs Bnsnnnsi'usm'o- Jefersomin thecounty of Harrison, andin the State of O hio, have inventedvcortain improvements in Bed-Bottonis;"' and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clealj, and exact description thereof, reference being had -to the ,accompanying drawings :md to the letters of' reference'marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
lIn the annexed drawings, A .represents aibedsten'd of "the ordinnrymnnufnctnre. The cord composing the` bottom of- Vthis bedstead, instead oi` being in one piece, is Vo series of short pieces which cross euch other, andare attached at each end and side of the bedstend, l
Our invention c onsstsin the devices for attaching these cords to the edstendg and in so attaching them to give elasticity to the bed-bottom.
Atsuitnble distances apart there are small narrow slots cut into the sides and ends of the frame of thebed for the insertion of the ends of nari-on"v rubber bands, which connect the bent rods a a. It .n ill be seen that these rods are so constructed as to allow the rubber bands to `loop'uround their rear ends. whilethe front ends are so compressed as to catch and hold the knots tied in the ends of'the bed-cord and hold it fast.
In constructing a bed-bottom, we iirs't 'cut the narrow slots in lthe rails ond lap tho narrow-rubber strips around the rear endof the loops a, andthen insert the ends ofthe rubber in slots and wedge (x) theiniby means of a narrow'strip of wood s that. the loops and bands are thus firmly attached to the hedstend. Theicoriis are then Iput together, and will lie-found both elastic and durable.
Having thus fully described our invention, what -we claim as new, and desire'to secureA by Letters Patent, is The loops a-a, bonds-1' t', and wegdes :e @when used upon the bedstead-frame in combina-tion with the cords z and y, in the manner substantially as andfor the purposes setforth. i In testimony that we claim the foregoing, we have hereunto set our hands this 16th d'y of March, 1867. WM. STENGER,
ALOIS BEYRNHIMEB.
