Description
J. H. FLAGS.
I Corner for Soapstone Stoves. v No. 48,542. A I Patented luly 4, 1865.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES H. FLAGG, OF PE'RKENSVILLE, VERMONT.
CORNER OR'JOINT FOR SOAPSTONE STOVES,
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 48,542, dated July 4, 1865.
exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.
The present invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in soapstone and other similar stoves, and consists in casting each corner-piece bywhich the contiguous ends of two external parts of stoves are held together and in position, and also each cornerpiece opposite thereto, upon the inner side of the stove, for securing theadj oinin g ends of the lining-plates in one and the same piece, whereby few, if any, rivets or screws, bolts, and nuts are required, and a much stronger and firmer stove obtained; and, besides, the stove can be more easily put together and taken apart when desired than it could he were they made or cast in separate and distinct pieces, as has heretofore been the case. i In the accompanying plate of drawings my improvements are represented, Figurel being a central longitudinal vertical section of a soapstone stove, and Fig. 2 a horizontal section thereof, taken in plane of line as m, Fig. 1.
a a in the accompanying drawings represent my improved soapstone stove, made of a square, polygonal, or any other desired shape,
and consisting of four pieces, I), c, d, and e, of
soapstone or other suitable stone, forming the external surfaces of the'stove; g 9, top plate of the stove. The four side pieces, b, c, d, and e, of the stove are set at right angles to each other on a suitable bottom plate, h h, and are held together and in position by corner-pieces k 7s 70 70, one placed at each corner thereof. Each corner-piece is connected with the correspondin g and opposite corner-piece, Z, upon the inner corners of the stove, and are casttogether in one piece, as seen in Fig. 2. Inserted in and held between and by the inner cornerpieces, I l, &c., are the lining-plates m m m, &c., which may be of any desired number and width.
From the above it will be evident that by casting the corner-pieces for holding thesoapstone sides and lining-plates together in one and the same piece I not only form a stove which can be readily taken down and put up at pleasure, but one which can be held together with the use of but few, if any, rivets, screwbolts, and nuts, a great number of which it has heretofore been necessary to use when the two opposite corner-pieces-outer and innerhave been cast or made in separate and distinct parts.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent JAMESH. FLAGG.
