NECK- YOKE.

FSPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 332,013, dated December 8, 1885.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, PETER SHATZER, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Athens, in the county of Harrison and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Neck-Yokes; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use, the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

My invention relates to improvements in the method of connecting horse-collars and neclcyokes, and has for its object to provide a device which can be quickly applied, and which when applied will remain in position and will not become detached from the neckyoke.

To these ends it consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of the several parts, as hereinafter first .fully described, and then pointed out in the claims.

In the drawings,Figure 1 is a front elevation, Figure 2 is a back elevation, and Fig. 3 is an edge view, of a device constructed according to my invention.

Referring to the drawings, Arepresents one end of a neck-yoke, which is provided with a staple, A, as clearly shown. Two loops, B B, formed of leather or other suitable material, fit around the neck-yoke with the staple A between them, as shown. These loops B B are held at their upper ends by a ring, 0, which I preferably make trapezoidal,as shown, although it could be circular, if desired. A connectingstrip, B or its equivalent, is se cured at its opposite ends to the loops B B on the rear side thereof, and serves to hold the same in their proper place, as will be understood. A; flap or tongue, D, (which, with the loops, maybe made of one piece,) is secured to the front side of the loops B B, and is passed through the staple A, as shown; It will be understood on reference to the drawings that my device forms a complete safetyhitch, as the tongue or flap D, passed through the staple, A, will prevent the loops B B slipping off the neck-yoke. Any tendency of these loops to slip off the neck-yoke will cause the flap or tongue to assume an inclined position in the staple A, and thereby hind against the ends of the same. The connecting-piece B will always keep the loops in position with the staple between them. Should the neckyoke turn in the loops, it will carry the staple with it, as will be understood, and the tongue D will consequently be bent or folded on itself, and the turning of the neck-yoke will thereby be prevented.

From the foregoing it will be understood that it is impossible for my device to become loose, and all that is necessary to do in order to apply it is to slip the end of the neck-yoke through the loops B B and pass the tongue B through the staples A.

E is the strap which connects my device to the horse-collar.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s

1. A safety-hitch for neck-yokes,comprising two loops of suitable material passed around the neck-yoke, and means for preventing the loops slipping off the'neck-yoke, substantially as set forth.

2. The combination of the neclcyoke, the loops passed around the neck-yoke and held at their upper ends by a ring, and a connecting-strip or its equivalent secured to the rear sides of the loops, substantially as and for the purposes specified.

3. The combination of the neck-yoke provided with a staple near its end, two loops passed around the neck-yoke with the staple between them and held at their upper ends by a ring, a connecting-strip or its equivalent secured to the rear sides of the loops, and a depending tongue, (which, together with the loops, may be made of one piece of material,) secured to the front sides of the loops and passed through the staple in the neck-yoke, substantially as described and shown.
