UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LLEWELLYN E. AINSWORTH, OF VERMILLION, DAKOTA TERRITORY.
IMPROVEMENT IN NECK-YOKE ATTACHMENTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 213,368, dated March 18, 1879; application filed January 31, 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LLEWELLYN E. AINs- WORTH, of Vermillion, in the county of Clay, and in the Territory of Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Yoke Attachments; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
My invention relates to double harness and it consists in the arrangement of neckyokes and straps, whereby, in holding back and backing, the strain is relieved from the horses necks and transferred almost exclusively to the breeching, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of my invention. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same. Fig. 3 is a perspective view, showing the application of my invention to double-harness.
A represents the main neck-yoke, provided with the usual center ring or eye B to pass over the end of the pole. To each end of the main neck-yoke A is attached an auxiliary neck-yoke, O, by a hook or snap-hook, a, or any other suitable means that will allow'said auxiliary neck-yoke to be easily and quickly attached and detached, as required. In each end of the auxiliary neck-5 oke C is attached a ring, I), having a strap, D, fastened to it. This strap D is, at its outer end, provided with a hook or snap-hook, (l, or other suitable device for attachment to the hame E. The points of attachment of the straps D to the hames E are well up on the sides, substantially as shown, so that the horse will be between the two straps. In each ring I) at the ends of the anxiliary neck-yoke, by a hook, snap-hook, or other device, 6, is connected a second strap, F, which extends back along the side of the horse, and is buckled or otherwise fastened to the -breeching G of the harness.
It will readily be seen that in holding back or backing the strain will come on the breeching G and straps F F, while comparatively little or none of the strain will come on the horses necks.
The means for connecting the various parts may be of any desired form, and I do not limit myself to any particular construction thereof.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the main neck-yoke A, the two auxiliary neck-yokes O O, and the two straps I) F, connected to each end of each auxiliary neck-yoke, and adapted to be used with the breeching of a harness, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand.
LLEWELLYN E. AINSWORTH.
