HAME-CLIP.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 296,530, dated April 8, 1884.

To all? whom it may concern;

Be it known that I, EDWARD D. Cons, of Macon, in the county of Macon. and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Harrie-Clip, of which the following is a full clear, and exact description.

The object of the invention is to improve heme-clips by means hereinafter described, and pointed out in'the claims.

Reference is to he had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Figure 1 is a sectional plan view, showing my new and improved haine'clip applied to the heme-tug. Fig. 2 is an edge View of the same; and Fig. 3 is a perspective view, showing the parts or sections of my new hame clip.

A represents the hams-tug; B, the harneclip, consisting of the sections a a; and 0 represents the screw by which the sections a a are attached to the hame-tug A, and D, Fig. 1. represents the sleeve placed upon the screw 0, for holding the rear ends of the sections a a properly apart, and for forming a hinge joint between the heme-tug A and clip B. The sections a of the clip B are duplicates of each other, and are each formed at the rear end with the eye b, through which the screw 0 passes, one of them being screw-threaded, to receive the screw-threaded end a of the screw 0. I l the center the sections a are formed with the inwardly projecting plates d, that are adapted to abut against each other when the clip is applied for use, as shown in Fig. 1, so as to brace and support and strengthen the sections as in the center. At the forward ends the sections a are turned to form the hooks e, which stand at right angles to the plane of the plates (1, and these hooks, when the sections a are put together, form the eye h of the clip, and the hooks 0 are correspondingly scarfed (No model.)

In applying the clip, the sections a are simply to be placed together, with the hooks e passing from opposite directions through the haine ring or staple, and then the rear ends of the sections are to be secured to the forward end of the heme-tug A by the screw 0, the screw passing through the sleeve D, placed in the fold of the leather forming the hame-tug. as clearly shown in Fig. l. Constructed in this manner, it will be seen that by removing the screw 0 the clip B may be detached from the hame, and also from the hamc-tug, so that either may be changed in the harness, if desired, without destroying the hamc-clip B. Besides this advantage, the clip is hinged upon the screw C to thehanie-tug, thus preventing the tug from bending and breaking at theconnectiou; and, furthermore, the clip is cheap, practical, and durable, and easily applied.
