'SWEAT-PAD.
.l SPECIFICATION forming part of'Letters Patent N o. 382.7502, dated May 15I 1888.
Application tiled February 11, 1888. Serial NoA 263.695. (No modem.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, ORION P. HoWE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Streator, in the county of La Salle and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sweat-Pads; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as Will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and usethe same.
This invention relates to sweat-pads for horse-collars; and it consists in the novel construction of the same whereby the hooks and strap fastening for holding the pad to a collar is dispensed with, and constructed as hereinafter described I produce an improved article of manufacture.
Prior to my invention sweat-pads have been used with the horsecollar, and were provided with straps, cord, or hook, or other fastening not a part of the pad, but secured thereto, for the purpose set forth.
The annexed drawings, towhich reference is made, fully illustrate my invention, in Which- Figure 1 represents a side view of my sweatpad, and Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional View of t-he same.
Referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, A designates the pad, having a front enlargement, c, which extends from one end of the ad on one side to the other end -on the other side thereof.
In rear of the roll the outer and inner faces of the pad are brought together, as at b, and
are stitched, and, extending rearwardly from said roll, the pad gradually terminates in an `enlarged portion, c, (stitched as shown at d,)
which serves to prevent said pad from moving forward when on the horses neck and beneath the horse-collar, while the front roll serves to prevent the, pad from moving rearwardly, the
said roll being in front of the collar and hugging it closely. Thus it will be seen that I produce an improved article of manufacture which does not require any hooks or straps, or, in fact, any fastening de'vice, for holding the pad in proper position on the horses collar, and is durable as well as `cheap to manufac- As an improved article of manufacture, the

In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
