Specification of Letters Patent.-
Patented Feb. 15, 1910.
Application filed September 8, 1909. Serial N o. 516,727.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN TsoHUDI, a citizen of the United States, residing at Montrose, in the county of Montrose and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Check-Hooks, of lwhich the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying draw- 1n s.
gMy invention relates to improvements in check hooks and more particularly to an attaching or fastening means therefor. c
The object of the invention is to provide a simple, practical, and inexpensive check hook slide which may be readily applied to a hame strap of low top hames.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consistsof the novel features of construction and the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing in Which- Figure l is a view illustrating the application of the invention to a hame strap; Fig. 2 is a rear edge view of the hame strap with my improved check hook slide arranged thereon; Fig. 3 is a section taken on the line 33 in Fig. 2.
The invention comprises a check hook 1 attached to a slide 2 which is of tubular form for the reception of a strap 8. This strap may be the ordinary haine strap -which unites low top haines as shown in Fig. l, such strap being formed from a single piece and having attached to one of its ends a buckle 4f. In arranging the slide upon the strap, the latter is passed through the slide and has its two extending ends passed through the upper ends 0f the haines 5 and the perforated end of the strap is again passed through the slide and engaged with the buckle 4 as will be clearly understood upon reference to Fig. 2. When thus arranged on the strap 3 it will be disposed above the top of the collar 6 of the harness. Said slide which may be made of leather, metal, or any other suitable material, extends transversely across the animals back so that the check hook l in order to receive the bridle or check rein is turned rearwardly, lengthwise of the anima-ls back. While said hook l may be of any form and construction it is preferably of the drop type and has a pivot or swivel connection 7 with an attaching plate 8 secured to the top of said slide.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it is thought that the construction, operation and advantages of the invention will be readily understood without a more extended explanation.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:
The combination with a pair of hames and a haine strap passed around the upper ends of the same and having its extremities united, a tubular leather slide arranged on the intermediate portion of said hame strap, and a check hook consisting of an attaching plate and a hook proper pivotally mounted in said attaching late, the latter being secured on the to ofP said tubular slide, whereby the longitu inal axis and the bill of the hook will be disposed in a transverse plane at right angles to the longitudinal axis of said slide.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aiix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
JOHN TSCHUDI.
