HAIR-WAVING DEVICE.
Application filed July 29, 1924. Serial No. 728,834.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JULIUS KAHN, a citizen of the United States, and, a residentoi Jersey City, county of Hudson, and State of New Jersey, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement of Hair-Waving Devices, of which the following is a specification. v
This invention relates to an improvement in a device intended to wave or curl the hair and has for its object to provide a simple arrangement which will produce the necessary and desired wave or curl of the hair without in any way breaking or injuring the hair.
A further object of this invention is to provide a simple device of this character which will be composed of a plurality of comb-like members, regulatable and adjustable with respect to one another, whereby they may enegage the hair and curl or crimp the same between them.
.With these objects and such objects as may hereinafter appear, in view, I have de- I vised the particular arrangement of parts hereinafter disclosed and more particularly pointed out in the claim appended hereto.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part hereof, in which- Figure 1 is a front elevation of my improved hair curling device with the parts extended from one another; I
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the same;
Figure 3 is a front elevation of the hair curling device showing the comb members slightly overlapping one another; and
Figure 4 is a sectional view on the line 44 of Figure 3 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Throughout the various views of the drawings, similar reference characters designate similar parts In the embodiment of my invention dis closed in the accompanying drawing, 1 have shown a plurality of comb members connected by articulated parts or links so that said comb members may be adjusted at various positions with respect to one another and may be caused to overlap one another and lie in such overlapped position with strands of hair extending between the teeth its end pivoted at 7 to a similar link 8 which has its opposite end pivoted at 9 t: the comb 2.
A link 10 is also. connected at 9 to the.
face of the comb 2 and extends therefrom and is pivotally connected at 11 to a link 12 which has its opposite end pivoted at 13 to the face of the comb 1.
It will be seen from the foregoing that each of the combs 1, 2 and 3 have their faces connected or joined by a pair-of pivoted links which are movable in various positions to accommodate the combs to the hair and to cause said combs to properly embrace and curl or crimp the strands of hair between one another.
The device may be used in many ways and the preferred manner in which it can be used is diagrammatically illustrated in Figure 4.
The combs are inserted in the. hair in their distended position as shown in Figure 1 and are then pressed together, the beginning of such movement being shown in Figures 3 and 4, such movement being substantially in the direction of the arrow shown in Figure 4 until they overlie one another to any extent desired.
The Strands of hair, indicated at 14 in Figure 4 are engaged by the teeth on the respective combs and are bunched as at 14* and formed in a plurality of crimps when the three combs are pressed together and caused to lie in overlapped relationship.
I am aware that individual and separate combs have been used for the purpose of curling or crimping the hair but these very readily become disengaged from the hair and fall out and do not provide the firm crimping action obtainable by the utilization of a plurality a series of links.
of combs connected by by said combs may be moved to various transversely overlapping positions with respect to one another.
Signed at the city,, eomnty and State of NeWYork, this 24th day of Judy, 924.
