G. W. TURPIN DEVICE FOR PRODUCING WAVES IN THE HAIR Filed Feb. 20, 1922 HTTOE/VEY Patented Apr. 24,1923.
UNITED STATES Mam M GEORGE w. ronrnv, or CLEVELAND, OHIO.
DEVICE FOR PRODUCING WAVES IN THE HAIR.
Application filed February 20, 1922. Serial No. 537,915.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE V. TURPIN,
' a citizen of theUnited States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyaho ga and State of 'Ohio, jhave invented new and useful Improvements inDevices for Crimping or Producing Vaves or lVave Ridges in the. Hair. I
More particularly my invention relates to devices of the above character in the shape of a headgear.
Among the objects of my invention are the foll0-Wing To provide a cap or similar head covering with cords along the inner walls for producing a wave or crimp, or other suitable impression on the hair; To provide other details of improvement tending to increase the efliciency and serviceability of a device of the above character. Y
To accomplish the foregoing and other useful ends, my inventioncomprises means hereinafter more fully set forth. and claimed.
Referring to the-accompanying drawing, the figure is a perspective view of the head- I gear of my invention, a section thereof being removed to more clearly illustrate the same.
' More particularly, the body, A, may be made of any suitable wo-ven material or of any suitable flexible material, that will stretch over and hug the scalp tightly.
Around the outer rim of the device, I pro-- vide a flexible band, B, which is sewed or otherwise secured to the body, A. This band terminates in two loose ends, C and D, to the latter of which is secured a buckle,
- as shown. The end, C, is provided with a series of perforations for engaging the buckle. By this means, the device may be strapped in position afterhavingbeen drawn tightly over the head. On the inside of the,
- headgear, I provide a series of flexible cords,
2, which have their terminals, 3, permanently secured to the body of the cap under the belt. illong the length of each cord, I provide loop attachments, 4, which while they hold the cords in position, permit the portions of the cord intermediate of the ends, 3, to slide and adapt themselves to the tension of the body, A.
It will be seen that after thehair is suitably smoothed out, and after it has been prepared in any suitable manner, the device of my invention may bestrapped over the head and left there for any suitable length of time, giving the hair time to dry and'set. Thereafter the cap may be removed with a result that the hair retains the crimps or necessarily round inasmuch as flat strips may be used if desired.
WVhat I claim as my invention is LA head gear, a fiexible'body, and a series of flexible cords distributed along the inner side of the body whereby waves may be impressed on the hair.
2. A head gear, a flexible body, and a a series of flexible cords distributed along the inner side of the body whereby waves may be impressed on the hair, said cords having their ends permanently fixed to the body,
and the intermediate portions slidably secured to the body.
3. A head gear, a flexible body, and a series of flexible cords distributed along the inner side of the body whereby waves may be impressed on the hair, and a belt and buckle along the rim of the headgearfor clamping it to the head.
" In witness whereof, I have hereunto subscribed my name this 7th day of February, 1922.
GEORGE W. TURPTN.
