DEVICE FOR WAVING HAIR.
APPLICATION FILED MAR. 10. 1921.
Patented Oct. 11, 1921.
j/vwyz'bfl A Mia? g) 1 I ADOLF KIETZ, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AnoLF Krn'rz, a subject of the Government of Germany, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Waving Hair, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is a device for wavin hair, and producing what is termed a arcel wave, and has for its-object to provide a simple and improved device which can be used by a woman at home without requiring the services of a hair dresser to produce waves in the hair. The device comprises a light wire frame with a plurality of bends or loops in back and forth relation, and
connected by a cord or the like which is threaded through small eyes on the successive loops or bends and by means of which these loops can be drawn up together to crimp the hair tightly after it is wound around the loops," so as to impart a wave or curl thereto.
The invention will be more fully understood by reference to the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a plan of the device. Fig. 2 is a plan showing how thehair is applied, and Fig. 3 is a plan showing the device drawn up and fastened, in'which condition it may remain overnight, or as long as necessary to give the desired wave to the hair.
The device comprises a single piece of wire bent back and forth on zig zag to form a series of loops or coils 6connected by bars 7 in alternation at opposite sides of a median line. Each bar is provided at about the middle thereof with an eye 8. At one end the wire is formed into an enlarged loop 9 to the end of which is connected, at 10, a

cord or tape 11 which extends thence through the eyes 8, passingfinally through a terminal eye 8 at the opposite end of the device. v i
In use the wisp of hair 12 is bent back and forth in the spaces between the bars 7, over and under the respective loops or sections, as illustrated in Fig. 2. Then the tape 11 s pulled, which draws or springs all the sections or loops together, as shown in Fig. 3 thereby drawing the hair tightly into wire bent to form a series of oppositely p1e sented loops arranged in zig-zag relation, and a draw tape extenchng transversely across the loops and movable to draw the same together to bind hair wound thereon. 2.' A. hair waver comprising a zig-zag series of loops consisting of cross bars and coils at opposite ends thereof, the bars having eyes, and a draw string extending through said eyes and adapted to draw the bars toward each other.
In testimony whereof, I do affix my signature in'presence of two witnesses.
ADOLF KIETZ.
