To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Gnn'rnonn B. BAT- rnnsnr, a citizen'of the United States, and a resident of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved I-Iair Curler, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates toimprovements in hair curlers, particularly to a curling device which is primarily intended for use in curling bobbed hair, but which will also prove efficacious in waving longer hair.

An object of this invention is to provide a curler, which will be exceedingly simple and practical in construction, yet which will be strong, durable and efficient in use, easily manipulated and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture, the whole curler being formed'from a single piece of material.

- With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and ar rangements of parts as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims. y

Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the manner of use of my improved curler;

Figure 2 is an edge view of the curler;

Figure 3is a perspective view showing the curler in open position; and

Figure 4 is a view similar to Figure 3 illustrating a slight modification.

Referring in detail to Figures 1, 2 and 3 of the drawings, it will be seen that my improved hair curler is formed from a single strip of material preferably, suitable bendable aud resilient metal. The curler includes a relatively rigid intermediate portion 1. Spring loops 2 connect the intermediate portion of the curler with a pair of curved spring arms 3 located upon opposite sides of the rigid intermediate portion and having their free ends extending in opposite directions.

It will be noted that the central portions of the arms 3 are curved slightly inwardly toward the intermediate portion of the curler so that the free ends of the arms normally tend to bend away from the intermediate portion 1. the arms is accomplishedprincipally by'the provision of the spring loops 2 at the ends of the arms. In Figure a, I have illustrated a slightly modified form of curler wherein the intermediate portion 6 instead of being fiat is rolled into substantially tubular form. The ends of the intermediate port-ion, however,

The manner of use of either form of the device is as follows: The extreme ends of a strand of hair are first clamped between the intermediate portion ofthe curler and one of the arms 3 by inserting the end of the arm under its associated catch 5. The hair is then wound around the intermediate por tion of the curler and the arm which is clamped thereto until the proper amount of curl is obtained, after which the other spring arm is snapped under its associated catchholding the hair in curl until this arm is again released. e

- Although I have illustrated one of the preferred embodiments of my invention, it will be obviops that variousslight changes and alterations might be made in the general form and arrangement of the parts de scribed without departing from the invention, and hence I do not wish to limit myself to the precise details set forth, but shall consider myself at liberty to make such slight changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.

I claim:

1. A hair curler comprising an elongated and substantially rigid arm, and a spring arm integrally connected to said rigid arm at either end thereof, said arms extending in opposite directions and cooperating with opposite faces of the rigid arm, said rigid arm being slotted adjacent to its extremities to provide an offset hook on each of its facesto receive the free ends of the spring rigid intermediate portion, spring arms located upon opposite sides of said intermediate portion, said arms extending in opposite directions and connected to opposite ends of said intermediate portion, and means integral with the intermediate portion adapted to engage with the free ends of the arms to hold said arms in clamping relation to the intermediate portion of the curler.

A hair curler including an elongated rigid intermediate portion, spring arms located 113011 0 aosite sides of said intermediate portion, said arms extending in opposits directions and connected to opposite ends of said intermedlate portion, and means integral with the intermediate portion adapted to engage with the :lree ends of the arms to hold said; arms in clamping rela tion to the intermediate portion 01"? the curler, said last mentioned means comprising integral hooks punched out of said intermediate portion.

4. As a new article of manufacture, a hair curler including an elongated substantially rigid arm, and a spring arm integrally connected to said first mentioned arm at one end, said rigid arm being slitted at its other end to provide an oifset hook adapted to reoeive the free end of said spring arm.
