Application filed October 22, 1923.
and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the characters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this application, and represent, in
Fig. 1 a plan view of a hair curler constructed in accordance with my invention, and shown in position as having gripped the ends of a lock of hair.

is invention relates to improvement in hair curlers, and particularly to \curlers which are formed from covered wire, so as to be'fiexible. In the use ofet-he curlers, the ends of a lock of hair are held by the fingers at the center of the curler, then the curler turned so as to roll the hairaround the curler, after which'the ends are folded inward, to hold the hair in place. In curling bobbed hair, difficulty is ex erienced in holding the end of a lock an the object of this invention is to provide a flexible curler with a tongue, by which the end of a lock of hair may be held so as to leave both hands free to roll the curler, and the invention consists in the construction as hereinafter described and particularly recited in the claims. In one form of my invention, as shown in Figs. 1, 2 and .3 of the drawings, the curler is formed from a single piece of flexible material, folded so as to form three members 10, 11 and 12. These members are secured together at the center by a clip 13 of metal or other suitable material. This provides a flexible curler with twotongues 14 and 15. In use the ends of a lock of hair are placed over the central part of the H Serial No. 669,991.
curler and the tongue 15 folded over onto it,
as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings,
so as to firmly hold the lock of hair. If desired, the tongue 14 may also be folded onto the look, so as to assist in holding it. The curler is then turned so as to wind the hair around it in the usual way, and then the looped ends of the wire are folded inward, as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings.
Instead of providing the tongue 14, this end of the wire may be cut off, as shown in Fig. 4 of the drawings, leaving only a single tongue 15, or, instead of folding the wire, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4 of the drawings, so that the tongue 15 is arranged centrally between the members 10 and 12, the wire may be bent into S-shape, as shown in Fig.
.5 of the drawin 's, so as to provide two tongues 16 and 1?; or, instead of forming the device froma single piece of wire, it may be formed from three strands of wire 18, 19 and 20, as shown in Fig. 6 of the drawings; I loop 13 will be employed for holding them together, and in each case, a tongue is provided for primarily gripping a lock of hair.
In any case, the same central When the lock is gripped, both hands are free to manipulate the curler, which is then manipulated in the usual manner.
I claim:
1. A flexible hair curler, comprising three flexible members, means for connecting the members together near the center, one of said members forming a tongue adapted to be turned over the ends of a lock of hair placed over the curler. '1
2. A flexible hair curler, formed from a single piece of wire, bent to form three members of substantially the same length, a clip connecting the three members, whereby a tongue is formed and adapted to be turned [over the ends of a lock of hair placed over the curler.
In testimony whereof, I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
MILTON D. MESEROLE.
