Description
Claims (11)
- 반사영역과 투과영역을 갖는 화소영역 내에 공통전극 및 화소전극이 구비된 제 1 기판과, 이와 마주하며 컬러필터층을 갖는 제 2 기판 및 이들 두 기판 사이에 개재된 액정층을 포함하며, 상기 제 1 기판에는 상기 반사영역과 투과영역에서 서로 그 방향을 달리하며 서로 교대하는 화소전극과 공통전극을 구비한 횡전계 모드 반사투과형 액정표시장치에 있어서,상기 제 1 기판의 내측면에 구비되며 상기 반사영역과 상기 투과영역에서 동일한 제 1 방향으로 배향처리된 제 1 배향막과;상기 제 2 기판의 내측면에 구비되며 상기 제 1 배향막과 동일하게 제 1 방향으로 배향 처리된 2 배향막을 포함하며, 상기 액정층은 상기 공통전극 및 화소전극에 전압 무인가(off) 상태에서 짧은 피치(pitch)의 키랄 네마틱 (chiral nematic) 액정분자가 수 십번 꼬여있는 나선형 구조를 가지며, 나선축은 광축(optical axis)에 평행하며, 상기 공통전극 및 화소전극에 전압 인가(on) 상태에서는 나선을 형성하고 있는 액정 분자의 재배열이 발생됨으로서 상기 나선축에 대해 상기 광축이 기울어지게 되며 복굴절이 발현되는 특성을 갖는 USH모드 액정으로 구성된 횡전계 모드 반사투과형 액정표시장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,상기 전압 인가 시 상기 광축은 상기 나선축에 대해 20도 내지 60도의 각도를 갖도록 기울어지는 횡전계 모드 반사투과형 액정표시장치.
- 제 2 항에 있어서,상기 반사영역과 투과영역에서 각각 상기 나선축에 대해 기울어지는 광축의 최대 기울기는 서로 다른 횡전계 모드 반사투과형 액정표시장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,상기 제 1 기판의 내측면에 게이트 절연막을 개재하여 서로 교차하여 상기 화소영역을 정의하며 배치된 게이트 배선 및 데이터 배선과;상기 게이트 배선과 나란하게 배치된 공통배선과;상기 화소영역에 게이트 배선 및 상기 데이터 배선과 연결되며 배치된 박막트랜지스터와;상기 데이터 배선 및 상기 박막트랜지스터를 덮으며 배치된 제 1 보호층과;상기 제 1 보호층 위로 상기 반사영역에 구비된 반사판과;상기 반사판 위로 구비된 제 2 보호층과;상기 제 2 보호층 상부로 상기 박막트랜지스터의 드레인 전극을 노출시키는 드레인 콘택홀을 통해 상기 드레인 전극과 접촉하며 상기 화소영역에 판 형태로 배치된 상기 화소전극과;상기 화소전극 위로 구비된 제 3 보호층과;상기 제 3 보호층 위로 상기 공통배선과 공통 콘택홀을 통해 연결되며 상기 투과영역에는 제 2 방향으로 그 장축을 가지며 이격하는 다수의 제 1 개구와, 상기 반사영역에는 제 3 방향으로 그 장축을 가지며 이격하는 다수의 제 2 개구를 포함하여 구성된 상기 공통전극을 포함하는 횡전계 모드 반사투과형 액정표시장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,상기 제 1 기판의 내측면에 게이트 절연막을 개재하여 서로 교차하여 상기 화소영역을 정의하며 배치된 게이트 배선 및 데이터 배선과;상기 게이트 배선과 나란하게 배치된 공통배선과;상기 화소영역에 게이트 배선 및 상기 데이터 배선과 연결되며 배치된 박막트랜지스터와;상기 데이터 배선 및 상기 박막트랜지스터를 덮으며 배치된 제 1 보호층과;상기 제 1 보호층 위로 상기 반사영역에 구비된 반사판과;상기 반사판 위로 구비된 제 2 보호층과;상기 제 2 보호층 상부로 상기 박막트랜지스터의 드레인 전극을 노출시키는 드레인 콘택홀을 통해 상기 드레인 전극과 접촉하며 상기 각 투과영역에는 제 2 방향으로 다수의 바(bar) 형태를 가지며 이격하며 배치되며, 상기 각 반사영역에는 제 3 방향으로 다수의 바(bar) 형태를 가지며 이격하며 배치된 다수의 상기 화소전극과;상기 화소전극 위로 형성된 제 3 보호층과;상기 제 3 보호층 위로 상기 공통배선과 공통 콘택홀을 통해 연결되며 상기 반사영역 및 투과영역에 각각 다수의 상기 화소전극과 이격하여 교대하며 배치된 다수의 상기 공통전극을 포함하는 횡전계 모드 반사투과형 액정표시장치.
- 제 4 항 또는 제 5 항에 있어서,상기 제 1 및 제 2 기판 외측면에 각각 구성되며 그 편광축이 서로 직교하도록 배치된 제 1 및 제 2 편광판을 포함하는 횡전계 모드 반사투과형 액정표시장치.
- 제 1 항 내지 제 5 항 중 어느 한 항에 있어서,상기 액정층은 반사영역과 투과영역에서 그 두께를 달리하는 횡전계 모드 반사투과형 액정표시장치.
- 제 7 항에 있어서,상기 투과영역에서의 액정층의 두께가 상기 반사영역에 있어서의 액정층의 두께의 2배인 횡전계 모드 반사투과형 액정표시장치.
- 제 1 항 내지 제 5 항 중 어느 한 항에 있어서,상기 액정층은 반사영역과 투과영역에서 그 두께가 동일한 횡전계 모드 반사투과형 액정표시장치.
- 제 4 항 또는 제 5 항에 있어서,상기 제 1 기판의 반사영역에는 상기 반사판 상부에 λ/4 위상차판이 구비된 횡전계 모드 반사투과형 액정표시장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,상기 컬러필터층은 상기 반사영역에 대응하여 그 중앙부에 대해서는 패터닝되어 제거됨으로써 투과홀이 구비된 횡전계 모드 반사투과형 액정표시장치.
