Claims (8)
- 셀 갭(d)이 동일한 투과 영역과 반사 영역이 정의된 제 1 기판 및 제 2 기판;상기 제 1 기판 상에 형성된 제 1 배향막;상기 제 1 기판과 대향하는 상기 제 2 기판 상의 투과 영역에 형성된 제 2 배향막;상기 제 1 기판과 대향하는 상기 제 2 기판 상의 반사 영역에 형성된 제 3 배향막;상기 제 1 기판의 하부에 형성된 하부편광판;상기 제 2 기판의 상부에 형성되며, 상기 하부편광판의 투과축과 직각을 이루는 투과축을 가지는 상부편광판;상기 제 1 기판 상에 형성되고, 수평 전계를 형성하는 화소전극 및 공통전극;상기 제 1 기판 상의 반사 영역에 형성되어 외부로부터의 광을 반사하는 반사층;상기 제 1 기판과 상기 제 2 기판 사이에 형성된 액정층;을 포함하여 구성되며,상기 제 1 및 제 2 배향막은 투과 영역의 액정이 상기 하부편광판의 투과축과 동일한 방향으로 배향되도록 하는 배향 방향을 가지고, 상기 제 3 배향막은 반사 영역의 액정이 소정의 꼬임각(θ)을 가지고 하부에서부터 상부로 꼬이도록 하는 배향 방향을 가지며, 상기 반사 영역의 액정의 꼬임각(θ) 및 반사 영역의 최상부 액정의 배향 방향과 상기 상부편광판의 투과축이 이루는 각(α)은 상기 반사 영역의 액정이 구동되지 않을 시에 반사 영역의 광 반사율이 "0"이 되는 범위 내에서 설정된 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서, 상기 반사 영역의 액정은 5°~ 85°의 꼬임각(θ)을 가지고 하부에서부터 상부로 꼬이도록 배향되며,상기 반사 영역의 최상부 액정은 상기 상부편광판의 투과축과 5°~ 85°의 각(α)을 이루도록 배향된 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
- 제 3 항에 있어서, 상기 반사 영역의 액정의 위상차(Δnd)는 300㎚ ~ 340㎚이며, 상기 반사 영역의 액정의 꼬임각(θ)은 50°~ 70°이고, 상기 반사 영역의 최상부 액정의 배향 방향과 상기 상부편광판의 투과축이 이루는 각(α)은 30°~ 40°인 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서, 상기 제 1 기판과 상기 제 2 기판 상의 투과 영역과 반사 영역의 경계에는 미배향 영역이 마련된 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
- 셀 갭(d)이 동일한 투과 영역과 반사 영역이 정의된 제 1 기판 및 제 2 기판을 제공하는 단계;상기 제 1 기판 상에 화소전극 및 공통전극을 형성하는 단계;상기 제 1 기판 상의 반사 영역에 반사층을 형성하는 단계;상기 제 1 기판 상에 제 1 배향막을 형성하는 단계;상기 제 2 기판 상의 투과 영역에 제 2 배향막을 형성하고 반사 영역에 제 3 배향막을 형성하는 단계;상기 제 1 기판의 하부에 하부편광판을 형성하는 단계;상기 제 2 기판의 상부에 상기 하부편광판의 투과 축과 직각을 이루는 투과축을 가지는 상부편광판을 형성하는 단계;상기 제 1 기판과 상기 제 2 기판 사이에 액정층을 형성하는 단계;를 포함하여 이루어지며,상기 제 1 및 제 2 배향막은 상기 제 1 기판과 상기 제 2 기판 사이의 투과 영역에 위치하는 액정이 상기 하부편광판의 투과축과 동일한 방향으로 배향되도록 러빙 처리되며, 상기 제 3 배향막은 상기 제 1 기판과 상기 제 2 기판 사이의 반사 영역에 위치하는 액정이 소정의 꼬임각(θ)을 가지고 하부에서부터 상부로 꼬이도록 러빙 처리되며, 상기 반사 영역에 위치하는 액정의 꼬임각(θ) 및 반사 영역에 위치하는 최상부 액정의 배향 방향과 상기 상부편광판의 투과축이 이루는 각(α)은 상기 반사 영역에 위치하는 액정이 구동되지 않을 시에 반사 영역의 광 반사율이 "0"이 되는 범위 내에서 설정된 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치의 설계 방법.
- 제 6 항에 있어서, 상기 반사 영역의 최상부 액정의 배향 방향과 상부편광판의 투과축이 이루는 소정의 각(α)은 5°~ 85°의 범위 내에서 정하는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치의 설계 방법.
