- 2장의 기판 사이에 개재된 강유전성 액정을 포함하는 액정 표시 소자이며, 상기 기판의 대향면 상에는 각각 전극과 광 배향막이 순서대로 형성되어 있고, 상기 광 배향막의 구성 재료는 광 반응을 발생시킴으로써 상기 광 배향막에 이방성을 부여하는 광 반응형 재료이며, 상기 강유전성 액정이 개재되어 상기 광 배향막의 구성 재료가 서로 다른 조성을 갖는 것이고,상기 광 반응형 재료가 라디칼 중합성 관능기를 가지며, 편광 방향에 따라 흡수를 달리하는 2색성을 갖는 광 이량화 반응성 화합물을 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 소자.
- 제3항에 있어서, 상기 광 이량화 반응성 화합물이 측쇄로서 신남산에스테르, 쿠마린 또는 퀴놀린 중 어느 하나를 포함하는 이량화 반응성 중합체인 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 소자.
- 제3항 내지 제5항 중 어느 한 항에 있어서, 상기 강유전성 액정이 단안정성을 나타내는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 소자.
- 제3항 내지 제5항 중 어느 한 항에 있어서, 상기 강유전성 액정이 상계열에 스멕틱 A상을 갖지 않는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 소자.
- 제3항 내지 제5항 중 어느 한 항에 있어서, 상기 강유전성 액정이 단일상을 구성하는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 소자.
- 제3항 내지 제5항 중 어느 한 항에 있어서, 박막 트랜지스터를 사용한 능동 매트릭스 방식에 의해 구동되는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 소자.
- 제3항 내지 제5항 중 어느 한 항에 있어서, 필드 시퀀셜(field sequential) 컬러 방식에 의해 구동되는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 소자.
