Abstract
PURPOSE: To simplify the manipulation of refilling a runner compartment of a multi-stage turbine pump with water after the starting thereof as well as to shorten the required time length of the starting, by exposing the upmost stage turbine alone to air before the starting of the pump.
CONSTITUTION: Upon starting of a vertical shaft, multi-stage turbine pump, an air intake valve 20 is opened after closing guide vanes 30, and then compressed air is fed into a runner compartment 24 from the top thereof so that the water level of the runner compartment 24 is lowered to a level below the lower end of an upper runner 25 but above a back pressure chamber 39 of a lower runner 27. Further, a leaked water replenishing valve and a guide vane leak and discharge valve are also opened. After the water level lowered is detected by a detector 38, each runners 25, 27 are started through a main shaft 40. Thereafter, when the speed of the main machine has reached to the specified rotational speed thereof, a discharge valve 22 and an inlet valve are opened for refilling the runner compartment with water. The discharge valve 22 is closed when hydraulic pressure of priming is established, while the guide vanes 30, 31 are opened so as to perform a steady operation.
