Abstract

PURPOSE: To shorten the starting-time and also to suppress the excess power input at the starting-time by starting a runner after checking compressed air introduced into a runner chamber.
CONSTITUTION: Compressed air is supplied into a runner chamber 1 from an opened air supply valve 8 of a supply pipe 5 to force the water level down, under the condition that a runner 4 is in a halt, with a guide vane 2 and an entrance valve 3 closed. Open state of the supply valve 8 is detected by a detecting device thereafter, starting device is rendered to work to start the runner 4 through a driving shaft 7. When the water level in the runner chamber 1 comes below the lower edge of the runner 4, the air supply valve 8 is closed to increase the runner revolution speed up to the rated speed. After the rated rpm is attained, the assigned exhaust valve, which may be also served as the supplying cock 8, is opened to exhaust the compressed air from the runner chamber 1 as well as the guide vane 2 and entrance valve 3 are opened to allow the motor or the like to synchronously participate in operation as a driving device.
