Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain fine lead oxalate suitable for a raw material powder of piezoelectric material simply, by reacting lead nitrate, lead acetate or a mixture thereof with oxalic acid in a solution of a lower glycol.
CONSTITUTION: Lead nitrate [Pb(NO3)2] or lead acetate [Pb(CH3COO)2.3H2O] or a mixture thereof is reacted with oxalic acid [(COOH)2.2H2O] in a solution of a lower glycol, e.g. ethylene glycol or propylene glycol, to give a very fine lead oxalate having an average particle size of 0.2μm or less. The resultant powder used as a raw material for a piezoelectric material consisting of lead essentially accelerates the solid phase reaction, permits the reduction in sintering temperature and improvement in uniformity and density, and provides a great effect thereof.
